I think the tree switch is just an excusse. The tree switches on the garmins can be turned on or off, or set to covey for Bird dogs. And Gps is only illeagal to run on hounds. The bird hunters can use them on thier dogs. Sounds like discrimination to me.

Well sounds like a guy just needs to go qual hunting with hounds. Is it illegal to run bear or big game or any game other than birds? what does the law state ?

Fish and Game has been trying to let us use them but when they went to the Commission with it, the anti's raised a ton of questions that overwhelmed fish and game that was required to answer all there questions in writing before the commission could make any changes, so the last I heard was they were not going to vote for any changes at this time.

Have any of you guys ever been checked for tree switches? I ran out there for 15 years back in the 80s and 90s and not only was I never checked for tree switches, I probably was only stopped a couple of times and checked for a license.

Boss Hog,
You are right, I don't give a crap about GPS or treeing switches. When CHC asked us our opinion, I replied that they shouldn't waste any effort on GPS or switches. That we need to deal with more important details like keeping our seasons and access.
It was irriatating when DFG took the use of switches away, but it didn't surprise me that it was not big deal.
We never had gps so DFG isn't taking anything away.
If DFG took telemetery away, yes it would be irritating, but I hunted successfully without it many years ago and I could/would do it again.

The HSUS is fighting a war against us. They see GPS as a battle to be won. Bird hunters can use it in CA but houndsman can't. Another clear example of the institutional prejudice we face. I am making it my goal in 2012 to push GPS as much as possible in front of the Fish and Game Commission. I am going to try to enlist some support from Garmin.com. I don't see why they wouldn't want to be able to sell more units in CA. I heard rumors that the HSUS was going to give us GPS this year if we didn't push raising the annual take on bear. Apparently they reneged at the last minute and stuck it to California houndsman one more time, should the rumors have been accurate. If we could get GPS and show HSUS their influence isn't all powerful it would be a step in the right direction. Regardless of your opinion on GPS you should get behind it and the CHC. Let's make 2012 the year we put the HSUS on the ropes or maybe in the rope. -Hang The Bastards. - Pete ECV #86
