I hope I am not beating a dead horse here, but I am currently looking into getting a Garmin Astro 320, and am wondering what collars I should get with it. I have read a little bit about the problems that the DC 40 is having and am still kind of confused as to what the problem is. Should I just say screw the DC 40 and go with the 30? What are your guyses take on the two on which is better? Thanks.

i have the 320 with dc 40 collars. i am having no problems whatsoever. i hunt twice a week since septemer so its been used a bit. it takes a few min to get a signal but my buddies dc 30s take a few min too. i would get the dc 40 cuz the batteries last a little longer i believe but there honestly isn't a difference really that i've noticed when it comes to effectiveness.

I don't think anyone is selling brand new DC 30 collars.

Houndhead i am sure your right they are not being made anymore and i checked a lot of place and everyone is sold out,my opinion on the 40's is the same as any collar some love them some don't,some were madde on Monday and some made Thursday, the ones i have were made on Monday ,i have a lot of poor tracking and signal but others i've hunted with work great next to my 40's

i think the 40's have improved since their debut.I bought 2 of the 40's in Sept. and haven't noticed any difference from the 30's.I think it pays to buy from someone like Buddy who is moving a lot of collars, so you don't get a new collar that has been sitting on a shelf for two years.Plus it is hard to beat Buddy's service.

It is a deadhorse. Many are still uniformed, relying on old info(like old posts), or refuse to upgrade thier collars.

Truth is the 40 works as good as any 30 ever did if not better. Since they are an improved model. Most of the improvements though were cosmetic in response to user demands. Really not much that can be done with signal strength like some would have you believe. I swear, I might just knock the next guy to tell me he can track 20miles with his bluebox. Yep, I can track 100miles with my garmin! From an AIRPLANE!!

First problem was software. But there was an underlying problem, that until the software was fixed could not be seen. That is when they were found to have a bad antenna that was prone to breakage. Not 100% sure why. Garmin has not said. My theory based on construction. Is that some pencil pusher following these sites. Thought to try to play on the all the web hype. That a slightly longer antenna makes them better. YEAH RIGHT! So they did this by strecthing the old antennas. Thus making them weaker and prone to breakage. Just a theory, but the wire diameter, and number of windings remained the same.

If you have updated your collars to the current software, and have replace the antenna to the new ones. You will find performance to be what I speak of. But, then again everything works here in the land of perfect
