Hey,
I have been a site member for a few years and I have read most of the things posted on BGH and the other like sites and gained a lot of knowledge. A lot of what I read about is why we should not even try to hunt hounds when you get right down to it! Have you stopped and listed the things that are against us?
Tree huggers (of all sizes and shapes), DFG harassment(any state but mostly California), Dog license fee's (neutered or not), hunting license fee's, special draws/fees, dogs getting stolen, killed, lost or hurt by wolves, cars, falling off a cliff or from some disease from a scratch or bite and the vet bills, price of gas, price of dog food, wear and tear on our vehicles, spouse/girl friend hating our sport, hunting regulations(no bears, no mountain lions, no bobcats), no hunting zones during certain times of the year(because of bird eggs or ?) and the list goes on and on! As a group I really see no one ever standing up for rights beside a few houndsmen.

So my questions is why do you bother to keep putting up with all the (?) and why do you hunt?

Its something that if it has to be explained to someone, they wouldn't understand anyway.

Any jack-leg can hike around and snipe bambi. I can sit and call cats and whatever else and shoot them all day. Try teaching a dog to do anything, especially without the aid of older dogs. Anything worth doing is usually difficult. I have asked this question myself because I know I have better sense than this, but at the end of the day the dog thing just seems like the closest I can get to feeling wild and free. I guess that's why people rodeo too.

Grand father started running hounds in the 30's, I've been into them for over 25 years, Bear and Cat hunt September thru February - Field Trial from January thru August, Meet my wife at a Field Trial 22 years ago and a year later when we got married on Saturday and went to a Field Trial on Sunday.

It's not just what we do but who we are!

Last night when I went to pick up my two Plott males, the guys sister and I were laughing at how two big muscled up males were acting so scared to get in a little red Beatle. I laughed and told her, "Their hounds, they don't have brains, but look at me, I drove 200 miles one way just to come get these dogs, and I still have 200 more miles to go back home, I obviously don't have a brain"

When my dad passed away I got out of the hounds for a little over a year. Sold all the dogs, got rid of some of the equipment, tried to just hunt with other people and call it good... Yeah, didn't work out! I seriously became so depressed and crazy that I finally threw my hands up and said I am getting back into it!

Part of the crazyness was going through a divorce and trying to make a new relationship work but I started getting back into it... At first it felt like I would never get dogs... Today I have 7 Plotts and 2 Bluetic Walker crosses... I got dogs alright LOL!

I need to have the hounds or I shut down and turn into a mean hateful person, ask my mom, she doesn't like the fact that I am 9 dogs and still want more, but she is ok with me not walking around wanting to kick everything that is there.

So now I work, hunt, drink, smoke (cigerettes and Prime Times), eat, and sleep. Perfect like for a 20 year old I do believe :)
