Hey all,
I am a rookie when it comes to hunting with hounds, and my husband and I are looking at starting up a pack pretty soon, so I was wondering what breed (s) would be the best here. I am in Colorado, and will be hunting bobcats and mountain lions.

I like the looks and nose of bloodhounds, but know that they aren't really hunting hounds, so I was wondering about a Majestic/b&t cross. (Beautiful hounds). I've also heard good things about Walkers and English or Bluetick hounds. What are the best for this type of hunting in your opinion and experience? (Also, any particularly good bloodlines or breeders you've come across in these breeds?) I'd love to get some opinions. Thanks!

My advise to you is...don't get hung up on a breed or looks of a dog. Go hunt with the dogs that interest you. Talk to others that have hunted the line of dogs you are thinking about getting. Spend time looking into the dogs you are going to get.
The best dog is the one that is going to work for you and please you.

best advice i can give you is this little story i hope you get it . One day a friend of mine asked one of the greatest lion Hunters ever, and i am serious about this , Hey what is your favorite all time kind of dog for hunting lions ? The old fellar sat there for almost 5 minutes thinking and plain as day he said" My favorite all time kind of dog is a dog that catches lions"

Don't get hung up on one color/type of dog. There's a half dozen or more very good guys here in CO. that are breeding some outstanding dogs, Mr. Pacojack, being one of them. These guys are breeding their best dogs and getting some very good pups. These dogs are called grade dogs and after 30 years of running dogs, its my belief that they are overall better dogs.
