What does a cat scratch look like and what does it mean when you ask how often are they used. Anyone have any pictures? I guess I have never seen one?

the best way to see what one looks like is to find a tom track and follow it. you will find places where he scratches. a scractch is when the cat urinates and then using his front feet pulls a pile of dirt, snow , or debris back over the top of it. As far as I know they dont use them more than once. Its just the way he is marking territory. If I am completley wrong about this, I hope someone will correct and re-educate me.

More than a true territorial marker it is how lions communicate with lions. If you have ever seen a tom make a bunch of scrapes in the same area at the same time you can bet he is lonely and looking for company.

They use their hind feet for the true tom scrape although lions make many different types of markers and females do make marks too.

Trail cameras have revealed a great deal about the lion scrape how they are made and why.
