Has anybody out there ever known someone to start out from scratch,with 2 pups from diff litters,trained them up til they were old enough to hunt and been somewhat successful.I guess I am looking for someones perspective on this.

I started out that way was 2 years from the time I got pups to the time I caught my first lion Now I hunt 1 pup with 2 older dogs

That is awesome,I bet the way you felt that day is indescribable.it makes me more excited knowing guys have done it.thank you.did u use scent training

Let me also add that it was a learning curve for me also Trying to start 3 day old tracks and dumb like not taking track to sunny side to see how it looked not knowing sun rings
But it was a hell of a feeling when I saw the first one after that they kept getting easier

Did u start litter mates or separate pups.I've heard bad things about starting pupps from the same litter

I'm not sure just what a couple people told me.they said that they tend to fight with each other more.what do you think.

I'm in the same boat dillon trying to get things going cant seem to go fast enough. :oops:

Yeah kinda frustrating.I realize it's not something that's going to happen over night or even years.but I'm gonna give er hell.

I started that way, and didn't really have a mentor other than my dad had messed with dogs a little in the past. I caught lion with those two dogs the first year, but I was lucky that one was exceptionally good. Get a dog that has done it, and a pup IMO. See if someone that is respected as a houndsmen close to you will take you out and listen to all of what they have to teach you, and NEVER be bashful about helping those dogs along on a track. You can usually find someone with an older pup trainer out there for a reasonable price, but make sure if you can that you know people that have seen the dog in action or know the person is respectable.
