Would you clone your dog?

I was flipping through the channels and saw a preview for a show about people that have cloned their dogs. I was just curious if anyone ever thought about or would clone their best hunting dogs?

I joked about it before I had my last litter of pups. I hate dealing with pups and would have rather cloned her and not had to worry about what I'm going to get! I don't think cloning them is really necessary though.

Absolutely! Could you imagine being able to breed the great ones of today with the great ones of the past. You would eventually never have culls. Does have a slightly uncomfortable feeling that goes with it however. Not sure how to explain it.

It is interesting to think of. I mean if I could have cloned a few of my favorites over the years that would have been cool, but you're right it is a bit weird. lol I mean you will have 2 of the dogs that are exactly alike lol I don't know how much it costs or if it is worth the cost, but it is something to think about if you really love a dog you have.

I don't think I would do it. I don't want to tarnish all the good experiences with a special dog by getting a sci-fi replacement. It is more rewarding for me to have a pup that resembles something of that good dog.

You don't really know if will turn out the same anyway. A lot more goes into a dog than just it's genetic makeup. It is impossible to put it into the situations that molded the first one. Sure it might be good but it won't be the same. Heck even identical twins turn out with noticeable differences.

Besides, what would you name the dog. :D

It would be interesting to take a top notch dog and clone it. Then give several of the clones to different houndsmen to see how they turn out. It would be a good way to find out the best training methods.
I always wondered if the culls in a litter were given to somebody else, would they have turned out to be good dogs?
There's so many variables in raising a pup that they would all turn out different anyways..
Just thinking out loud.........
