David don't take this the wrong way....or do if you want. Here is the deal you got a cat (female) and yes, she may have been causing some trouble for the rancher. Not sure because I don't know what has went on. But I have been a rancher my whole life as is my Dad and my grandfather. We live in lion country and have never had a problem not saying it dosent happen it is just sometimes blown out of porportion sometimes!
Well now you got this lion(female) she dosen't look to be wet but have you run the area enough to know that there is not a female in there with some juveniles that she has stashed some where. Now in a couple weeks they start wondering where momma is and they are getting hungry, but they can't catch deer. So the ranchers dog looks pretty appetizing now he has a real problem and in the end one, two, or three more dead cats because they are having trouble surviving with out momma.
Now next year you head into the same area to hunt cats but cant find any tracks. So you spread you wings and head out in to some new areas and find that the houndsmen in those areas are very unfriendly. They are not as worried about the one dead female as they are the starving juves. and the next litter she may have.
Just some food for thought. If you have to harvest a female be sure of what you are doing!

nice cat dave, sometimes people just stick their nose where it dont belong and it sounds like you helped the farmer out and in my neck of the woods we need all the help from them we can get.

You say the cat was causing the rancher lots of problems, curious as to what the problems were. The cat looks like it has a full belly in the one picture were it is being held up, was it killing livestock.
