30-30 ammo

I am getting a 30-30 to carry bear hunting and was wondering what bullets those that hunt with one shoot. I have a full reloading setup and will reload my own shells. I have reloaded the 30-30 with 125 grain flat nose hollow points and as far as deer go these work great, enough expansion with enough retention to have nearly 100% pass thru.

I have hunted with a 45 70 and currently carry a .284 win but the logic of carrying a $500 to $600 gun does not seem vert smart. I riuned the 45-70 in a CF with a bear on top dogs and not able to shoot. That is the reason for getting a gun that is cheaper and easier to replace.

Any recommendations?

The new LEVERevolution .30-.30 ammo from Hornaday just leaves all other .30-.30 ammo in the dust in downrange performace and accuracy.

i haven't had this problem ..but I am told to use lead heads and NOT hollow points. The lead heads go into the bears deeper and you get more dead bears shooting them in the head or the body.Though it is true that the hollow points make a biggier hole the lead head goes deeper and cause more damage.

170 gr. expanding tips.

Machias - Thanks for that info, I'm going out today and buy couple boxes of those and try 'em out when I go calling for yotes. They say that the 30-3
0 is now a 300 yard rifle with those bullets . I also like the way the tip expands and has the plastic point so it don't damage the tip when loading in to the tube. Looks like it will be awesome ammo for my 30-30 rifle.
