been hunting with the local coon club guys a bit what a joke most of the dogs should be culled on the spot male dogs fighting even with females dogs face barking ugh a ton of slick trees and bs storys every slick tree is a den tree most of the slick trees have no holes or a hole a finger wont fit in there dogs over run turns then come back to join my dogs who never left the track and are treed before there dogs :D get there but there dog was out front the whole time
but they sit around lieing making nite champs the dont promote the sport heck who the heck wants to hang out with them any way grumpy bsing clowns and the sick thing is they believe there bs
well the guy who says he owns the best dog grand nite champ around here i run with him 3 time and i shot out 3 coon with his dogs in his truck  how did this dog go to a world hunt and now get spanked by a big game hound with not one grand nite champ in pedegree  well im sure on his score card he won by points his dog likes to leave a track and run straight out for a mile and slick tree when is owner sees him usually im shooting the coon out by then and he has talked enough bs in 15min to hang him and his dog :D he refuses to put his dog on my garmin garmins dont lie :beer i hope all clubs are not like this this is pretty bad

part two of two well i have seen plenty of bear dogs and hog dogs and am usually impressed with a good pack of hounds and they handle nice also heck if catch dogs were this nasty they would not make it.well guys with a bear there is no liars either the bear is in the tree or it is not he cant slip into a quarter size hole hog same thing got him caught or you dont no bs and you can dump 20 dogs and see on the garmin whos out front and whos not and what dog is not running period out of shape coyote dogs same thing they either catch and kill him or who knows what happened
well im looking for other clubs this is pure nitemare not nite hunt :beer well im glad i got out with them a few times but never again would rather shoot both my feet one last story damn club pres dog jumped my female in the parking lot fighting and baying like a coon on the ground he was screaming for 5 min s trying to get to my dog and he said good dog ok im like wtf is this icehole saying then he put the dog away i called a old timer whos hunted with him he said the guy is scared of his dog and if he trys to correct the dog it will bite him like it did when he went out with the guy wow well hunting with one guy now who is great and he walked away from the club 20 yrs ago im still going to look for another club just hoping to find better dogs and people wow what a expeirence hmm :joker

I've coon hunted for 25 years been to 4 competition hunts, hunted in 3, guided in 1. The whole thing is a joke in my opinion too! Sure some of the dogs I hunted with could tree coons but most were slick treeing junk, its funny how competition dogs are the only hounds capable of treeing coons that are small thoughts fit in a key hole, I've had a dog or 2 that could and all this time I thought they were slick treeing  from what I experienced its not how good your dogs are, its how well you know the rule book and who can out BS the other man

I heave only ever went on one night hunt and decided it was not for me. A buddy of mine bought a female walker that needed like three more wins to make grandnight champ. So I went on the hunt that if she won the hunt she would grand out. So we go to the club house and when they make up the casts she is the only night champ so she gets to hunt by her self  We get out to the hunting area and the judge is a freind of my buddy. We cast out the one dog and she goes out about a two hundred yards and tree's. Well we look in to the tree until I guess we timmed out the judge says I saw the coon, and bam she is now a grand night champ. I'm damn sure there wasnt a coon the tree but no one there was going to say crap about it.
Well that there was it for me and the whole Regisered night hunt Bull$hit. Each to there own its just not for me.

I almost forgot, that comp there was also a bench show. The black & tan I was hunting was a grandshow champion. The previous owner showed the dog but never hunted it. He was a decent coon dog and awesome to look at. I got to the club house early and thought what the he'll I'll enter the bench show, there were maybe 10 dogs total but only two in grandshow class my b&t and a redbone. My hound stood like a pro, walked like one and was built like a champ, the redbone looked like he was way past his prime, and just wanted to lay on the bench, judges makes his rounds walks past my shiny black dog standing like a statue and lays the plaque down at the redbones nose which was resting on the bench! WTF!?! Anyway after the show and during the hunt one of the guys in the cast told me that the redbone belonged to the judge and the other guy was just showing him that night. I sent a letter and an email to UKC but never heard a thing other than we'll look into it. Its not that I cared about a $5 piece of oak with a plastic hound on it but damn wrong is wrong.

Was this all reported to the master of hounds ? If there is any funny business going on it should be reportred . Not all night hunts are bad . If you did'nt report it , it's your own fault !

It is the same every where. They cheat like mad in the woods and the bench show is a joke. I show mine at all breed shows, it is still political, but nothing as bad as the local bench shows. That is why you can't trust what they have on those papers. GrCh GrNCh whatever show me some game and look good doing it.

x2 I have been nite hunting for 30+ years and yes there are some bad casts and some shady dealings happen. However, that is the total minority. There is way more good fun nights than bad.And I don't care what sport you are involved with and at what level there are always rotten apples.Heres two examples.Couple of years ago it was found the kid that pitched so fantasticly at the little League World Series was to old.Think when you get to the Series someone doesn't know that? Now go the other end of the spectrum,Nascar, multibillion dollar industry.Chad Knause one of the most winning crew chiefs, a few years ago was fined and suspended just before the Daytona 500.Do you believe for a second he didn't know he was fudging.
With that being said nite hunts aren't for everyone. They are a C-O-M-P-E-T-I-T-I-O-N and not a pleasure hunt. And there is usually the problem, someone new shows up and thinks its gonna be just like messing around with his buddies on a saturday night. But they find out that some of the people there are actually there to win and not BS and chit chat about how good the dogs are or aren't doing.Or they get mad and feel cheated because a good handler didnt advise them that they should or shouldn't make a call. Some people are competitive and some aren't.Heck they even fight over umpire calls at church league softball games. So to lump all competition hunters as cheats and scoundrels might not be such a good idea.
The fun ones are when you have four good dogs, with four good handlers that know the rules and their dogs and it just comes down to some good dog work.

WEll said Travis... so when I drive 7 to 11 hrs 1 way I expect to win the hunt.
Know the rules and stand up for yourself and you'll be fine...like Travis said this isn't for everyone.

were are you located at in new york? i have a ''coondog'' i would put a bet on. especially a pleasure hunt with all dogs on the garmin, sounds like the makings of a good comp hunt. no ''slick'' handler bs. i live close to the blue water bridge, about 5 hours from new york. one of my friends lives in buffalo. i hunt farms, nasty swamps, down all around the black river, no feeder bucket bs. iv been out with dogs, and hunters that sound like the same guys your talking about. but trust me, there not all like that. im not a comp hunter myself, but i hunt almost every night with some comp hunters and just buddys that hide hunt.
we should go turn lose one night, or better yet a few nights in a row. take care, and tree some critters.

Thats what I mean.Your willing to wager on a pleasure hunt.Thats would just be competition in another form.My "competition" dogs put over 150 hides in the furbuyers trailer and never shot more than one out of a tree.Don't believe all the bullshit you hear, cause eyeballs win competition hunts as well as pleasure hunts. Most hard core competition hunters put just as many nights if not more on their dogs tuning them up.They also like to see good dog work just as much as the next guy.Sounds like the guys you went with aren't the competition hunters they think they are.A good judge would have minused them for running that deer for 45 minutes.Besides if your packing a coondog, when he is running deer your treeing coons, nothing says your dog has to join in just cause a dog is barking. My dogs have sense enough to know from being pleasure hunted during the week that if they join in on a shit race it is usually followed by a very unpleasant sensation jolting them back to reality. And I like you wouldn't want to turn loose with a face barker either, guys that put up with that shit give the majority a bad name with guys like you who are just checking things out,but as I said that is NOT the way it goes at the majority of hunts.
