Some dogs are totally silent on track, he may also come into with more experience. I have a female who is silent on track by herself but if with other dogs she's semi open.

does he tree good? some people like the silent dogs when the dog barks they know it is treed or caught. Try letting a cage coon go and let another dog that is real open on track run it and tree it hold your dog back until he is excited over the other dog making noise then put your dog on the track and let him go. it may take a few times for him to understand that it is ok to bark when let go.

If you are planning on hunting cats, a silent dog is sometimes a lethal weapon, I personaly would not worry about it if you are going to hunt cats, my opinion is it's a good thing as long as you have a good tracking system!
