Probably a question with no answer that will stir up some controversy but what breed of hound do most of you prefer?
Also, do you prefer a large hound or a smaller to medium size hound?
Ill be hunting bear, bobcat and lion if that helps any.

there was just a poll done on breed not to long ago but I think it got pushed to the cage.
As for size I like a mdeium hound, males to be in the 65-75 pound range and females in the 50 pound range. Have had smaller females thinking that would work better for agility and speed but they do not seem to hold up in this country as well as a leggy female around 50-55.
I prefer a bigger boned male or female over the fine boned walkers being produced today. Again more for strength and stamina for dealing with deep snow conditions then agility and speed. JMO

Snowy River,
Do you know a Tom Lee? He used to live in them parts years ago, and use to have hounds.

I would reaLLY PREFER MY HOUNDS TO STAND 15-2 HANDS AND WEIGH ABOUT 1200 POUNDS. Yep, I want then to stike honest, trail fast and tree hard. I prefer those that can start the truck, drive, it, and load the gear. I have found these to be the most desirible of all types.
On the other hand sort of like whe I go out to play golf I am always happy when I show back up at the clubhouse with the same group I teed off with. LOL!
Sorta like girl friends Amigo if they look good and sound good you will tell your buddy they are the best!

Whatever floats your boat
I like them smaller, males around 60-65lbs.. Females not over 50lbs and more compact. Deep chests, narrow guts.. I don't know.. maybe that is lean and racey looking LOL
The other half of my party

likes them taller and lankier.. He seems to think they get around the rocks better.. Even though our best rock dog is our small 45lb compact, light on her toes, agile as an acrobat walker female..
So whatever you like to look at and that gets around well enough to suit you... We will feed just about anything that can keep up with the rest of the pack.. Stragglers need not apply
This is a picture of how I like a female built.. She was waaayyyy out of shape in this picture though... She leaves vapor trails when she gets lined out

And has the brains and nose to boot.. I have her spitting image in the male version.. He is pushing 55lbs... You know how many of these I can fit in a dogbox

That could be a tricky one, I have seen big dogs that were fast and slow. The same with smaller dogs. I think it is more important to have a pack that is the same speed fast or slow. That is what I think is important.

Anyone could have guessed that someone breeding for looks, not hunting ability would contribute to this post. Hows that dog that you shot in the ear doing?

I would have to call that extra large on my scale there.

Apparently I like small dogs, I always called them medium sized but I like males around 50# and females 40-45. I've seen a few big dogs that could run with them, but when they get in the thinning and bad brush they pay for that extra size.

Bearcat, I guess I'm like you, I always called them medium sized, but that's within a breed I guess. Males at 50-55, 60 max, females 40-45.
I for one beg to differ when it comes to size doesn't matter, but that's JMO
