Fullcryhounds made a statement that I found as a idea for this post. His method of correction was to put the dog on his back and stand over him. I have used this method time to time along with ear pressure on them enought to get the point across. My question is what methods have you found that are effective for correction. I prefer my dogs to have a good handle. Each of mine knows lie down, sit, up, box, and that'll do or its mine. They also come to the dogbox door by name but sometimes a bit of scramble if I have a track nearby but still usually listen fairly well. I have a very young pack yet so I hope it will get better with a few years on them.

I would just point out that you need to not let your emotions get in the way of correcting or training a dog. I have seen dogs ruined by people who let anger and embarrasement come out of them while handling a dog.

I agree, although I have let my temper get the best of me but luckily its usually not a harsh treatment. Mr. Warner posted on a roading topic about starving a dog down a little to help settle him down. I would love to hear more elaboration about that. I think he might have a point to settle down pups who are at starting age that are hard to get their attention on the track and not play.

Yeah i also read that and it gave me some ideas about how to get my pups to stop playing grab ass and want to load in the truck when i need them to.

Sorry John, a more appropriate term more likely would be wear down or break the dog down then boost the dogs confidence later.

It's O.K. . I knew what you meant. No need to apologize to me. People can take what they want from a post. Depending on their mood and mind set at the time a person may see good or bad, in what we write. I may have had a similar reaction if I had not been involved in the previous topic. I will say this, the quickest way into a dogs mind and heart is through its stomach. Loyalty is given to the one who fills the feed dish. A little less feed on the chain, with a little more treats on the trail will work magic for some hounds. Jim. I have read some great stuff from you on this site, but on this one your out of line. Telling some one what they should or shouldn’t do with their children, because of a topic you didn’t take the time to fully understand. You should know better.
