Thought some of you might find this interesting. I treed a young tom this last week and it had a tracking collar and a red ear tag on it. I had to get my bobcats checked a few days later and asked the Idaho fish and game if they had a study going on. They told me they had no collared lions in Northern Idaho. I checked Oregon and all their collared lions were accounted for. So I checked with Washington and they got back to me a few days later and told me this was one of their lions and was collared 75 air miles away from where I caught it. This lion really went through some huge country and swam 2 big river to get where he's at. I just hope he stays! Idaho could use some lions.

Cool story- i know they have been running a study down in the blues for a little while

Most of the game departments are using a hybred type collar that sends a GPS cordinate to a satelite every so often on a set schedule and use's telemetry all the time. They can look back through the GPS to get a better idea where stuff is moving. I know OR had some collared wolves they were using these GPS cordinates on to confirm wolf kills on live stock. I think Marshall was trying to do this with a hound system also that used most options but I never heard if it happened or not.
