What in your opinion is the best hound state?

This will be my first post, im a 21 year old guy that lives in washington and im looking to move out of this anti-hunting state. I love the state, but hate the people running it. Im tired of not being able to run my hound, like she needs to be hunted. I have recently resorted to laying scent trails, and i still run the risk of getting ticketed for hunting dispite the fact that its a trail i layed down myself.

Looking to set up in a state that would be the best option for running hounds as much as possible. I just got off the phone with a guy, and in his opinion Nevada was the state he would go to. I dont know much about the opportunitys outside of WA and ID, and i want to figure out which state best fits me. In the following years id like to make a career out of hound hunting, but sure as hell can't do that here in washington. Any information, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated. If you have the time i can email or talk to you personally by phone.

Thanks

West Virginia and its neighbors would be your best bet. When you figure out how to "make a career" out of hound hunting, let me know how you did it.........

if you're a bear hunter my vote is for WV. I wouldn't mind making a trip to utah or idaho to hunt though.

Idaho is probably the best we have lion bobcat coon hogs and bear so we have everything and the people in charge are outdoorsmen too so hopefully will have good hunting for a long time to come. The down side of Idaho is we are full of wolves and houndsmen permit is resident only so think you have to prove a year residentsy

Ive looked into Idaho alot, as its closer to my family but the wolves are a big downside for me. I would love to get some true dry ground dogs, AZ,NM, and NV are the states that attract me. Montana would be another one that i like, but again they have wolves and i dont know how bad they are there. Just would like to find a state where i can run hounds year round, my dream is to become a part time hound hunter/dog trainer.

ive talked to a man that trains hounds when most states are in the off season. he has guides from all over ship there dogs down to him to keep them up while they are guiding other animals like elk/deer.

thanks for the replys so far, any big time hound guides from down south have anymore advice or information?

Utah sucks. I'd try about any other place.

The hound hunting and fly-fishing sucks in Idaho...tell everyone in Utah.

I agree, but where are the hogs? Never heard about anyone hunting hogs up there.

West Virginia is where I live and hunt. We have bear, coyote, coon, and bobcat. It's a long way from where you are, but the only time we don't run bear is during 2 weeks of deer season in November and middle of January until about the middle of April because they're all holed up other than that free range when ever you want. Our kill season is 3 days in September and the whole month of December. Coyote is all year long. Coon is October to March, Bobcat I think is January 1st to February 29th. Training all year long. Southern part of the state has hogs, but you can't run them with dogs yet.

if i was gonna look at the long haul i would try to live along the border close to more than one good hound hunting state .that way there are more opportunities ,and if the antis close one down you will have the other to fall back on.
