You might want to try looking through some of the topics in the Training section of the forum. There are a lot of methods discussed there. Good luck.

Use Mike Leonards method on here, it works. If you have snow, wait for a fresh snow and find a smoking hot track and start walking it out once that pup says he's ready to go cut him loose. He may catch or not but he will have his first confidence boost. And just keep repeating until he does catch. I walked a many mile on tracks last year until I caught my first bobcat alone. Key is for a young dog is repetition. Now if he's 6 months like your other post the walking out method may be a bit early at the moment, but will be fine by next winter.

Dont push the pup to hard she will learn. Remember to make it fun for the pup. If she starts to lose interest just stop for the day. Do not get mad and try to make her do what you think she should be doing. If she dose not show interest in a exercise wait about a week or two that is a life time in puppy time, then try again. What you should be making sure the pup can do first and foremost is the basic commands, you can not build a complete dog if they are not there period! They are come, no, name, load, sit, wait, and I use ok. As long as you keep it fun and take the pup for walks out in the woods and let her smell all of the different stuff out there and run what ever she want she will continue to learn and make progress. After the age of one year old you can start to amp up the serious training. This is just the way I do it hope it helps.

all this info really helps thanks. he is really smart and just wants to make me happy i can see it when he tries. i take him for walks in the woods all the time and at my house i found a really well used coon highway and everytime we walk past it he runs around on it sniffing so i let him. im back up in washington for a month and all you can do is run coons here but i really think he will make an amazing cat dog cause everytime he sees my sisters cat he wants it, he is vocal and everything something just clicks i guess. if you or anyone is from utah it would really help if we could tag along he roads and everything i just dont wanna go alone cause i dont know the area or anything thanks again!
