NM game regulation changes

So,
What do you guys think?
It looks like year round lion season with quotas in place.
Roadkill and depredation does not go towards quotas.
Also you can get a second lion tag if desired?
I need some input, so I can recommend ideas.

I think as long as the quotas stay the same, with road kills and depredation kills accounted for in the quota...then I see nothing wrong with a year round two tags per hunter season...

Deregulate them completely. Make them varmints again. The snow hunters can stay in business or hunt themselves into extiction, the rest of us can have our fun! It hasn't cleaned out any lions in Texas.
Since that won't fly, leave the quotas where they are, with year round hunting and two tags.

The quota areas need to be designed with a bit of common sense. Make it work put the cities in a larger area then the outlying regions to shut it down before over harvesting occurs and let those whose lively hoods are affected have enough room to maneuver just my two cents.

I know I live in TX but I like it. The only thing I'd change is the roadkill should count. The snow areas will likely shut down early and the the dry grounders can have their fun the rest of the year. Sounds like a great deal to me.
Benny,
In talking to our buddy out here they may finally be catching up to the lions. This year they've all been having a hard time finding tracks to run. Don't get me wrong they're still a few around but not like it's been in the past.

I'd have to agree with Bency, although it would be nice to declassify them as big game and consider them varmints like Texas.

When are they proposing that this change take place or is it all rumor still?

This will pass if everybody out there gets ahold of their hunting friends and send a short note to each of New Mexico's Game Commission members.
I don't think the road kill issue has much impact, but depredation can especially in sheep country although many more lions are snared in those areas than are reported.I think the ability to run dogs year round will allow hunters to be able to control numbers better in those areas and especially target offending predators rather than indiscriminatly allow the Choke Ghosts to thin the herd.

This will go through, I talked with a commisioner about it last week.
The only item is the two tags, Might be some resistance from the anti crowd he was thinking.
It might do buy license and a tag, fill that tag then you can go buy a second tag.
I did like the year round,
mike is correct the depredation / road kill wont effect the lions much.
But will have an impact on the bears.
This should be voted on next meeting.

Shorty that doesn't surprise me. Anywhere that is hunted every day, year after year, by efficient hunters, the effects will be noticed. Sam has accomplished the same thing in the Klondyke country, and before our former Governor shut down the program, a young man in the Guadalupes cleaned them out of that range.
Coyotes don't get enough credit for their part of wiping out the prey base, either.
All that aside, part time hunters in dry or bare country won't impact the lions all on their own. ( Or at least I don't seem to. )
