Tracker Classic with a collar upgrade?

I currently have a six year old Tracker classic system and the stock strike collars it came with. From what I understand, the actual range available for tracking comes entirely from the transmitting collar. At only 3.5 miles, the strike collars have me turning my gain setting up to 6 (out of ten) on the dial, with horrible static and no clear chirping signal. I know there are a lot better systems available out there besides Tracker and am considering a change, but until then, if I picked up a much stronger collar such as a Marshall Powermax, could I expect a much better, clearer signal with my tracker kit, especially in hills and mountains?

alex, all of the tracker recievers that i have used have always been excellent. how ever the ones that i handled belonged to other people, and they were always useing one of the other major companies collars. i have a trx 1000 which i probably will always keep. but liked the tracker recievers so much that i have the one that tracks all the bands coming with two of the strike collars. i figured i would try their collars and if not satisfied i have four wild life collars that i am very pleased with. judging by what you are saying i guess i might not be to happy with their collars. unless ya may have a couple of duds. but the recievers are pretty darn good. take care!
just reread your post if they are six years old they might just be showing age?
