''Carnivore''

I don't want to sound like more of an asshole hold on scratch that ''ASSHOLE'' than I am but on the last show it seemed to me you made a documentary on why CA is loosing its hound hunting rights. That cub had to still be with it's mother if some dumbass didn't kill her. All the tire spinning hauling ass and beating the shit out of the dogs in the box did not help. The wounded bear coming out of the tree and almost biting someone was the cherry on top. Gary you are doing nothing for the sport with shows like that...

P.S. please don't do any New Mexico shows.

Guys, Here is a quick over view in my humble opinion...A.This belongs on the private side, not open for public review.....Period! Where are the moderators?
B.Hound hunting is under attack in every corner of our country. I did not see this program. We are quick to condemn the minority hound hunters but not one word is ever mentioned about the methods of management and by what agency after we are banned....

I'm not defending any acts of unethical hunting...

Here is my position....

We are quick to bash a fellow hound hunter but never one single word is ever mentioned about who and what repaleces sport hunting after we are banned....

Why don't we do a documentary for Television depicting the use of the mechanically fired cable snare set over rank baits catching all target species and plenty non targeted as well. Here is one classic example, the odd cougar in Oregon that wandered in and stuck a foot in the snare set over rank bait for black bears, only to be shot and dumped like trash by the USDA-Aphis Wildlife services agent or contractor.

How about those same snares set on private sector corporate timber lands subsidized on your dime? how about the sport hunter who now pays an average of $160.00 each to process, cut and wrap those bear killed on your dime? Without your contribution as a sport hunter, these clowns in Salem wouldn't have a job....They offer to pay to cut and wrap your deer and elk?

How about 100% of all sow black bear with cubs caught by the ankle in a snare are shot, The baby cubs are labeled "unknowns" since they weighed around 10-20 pounds? On a average year, 50 cubs are killed according to my reports.

How about the mandate from Ronald Anglin, Head Administrator for the Oregon Fish Commission to Usda head David Williams in Portland oregon that reads...Mike Martell, if your question is, what do we do with those cougar treed over Government hounds or caught in our equipment, defined as a trap or snare....All of them, Males, Females, kittens are to be euthanized by the agent and once killed are hauled to the landfill.....

Yes, you the tax paying sport hunting citizen are picking up the bill to dump our Big Game mammals that have been relabled in the night as predators by the handy work of ODFW.....I call bullshit on any Big Game mammal being classified as a predator under H.B. 3636.How did this happen? The Fish Commission sold to our State Government calling bear and cougar "predators".....Here is a wakeup call for those who don't know the difference....Damn rights they are predators.....but not until they cross the line in a form of damage, be it timber, crops, livestock, public safety. UNTIL THEN....THEY ARE ALL BIG GAME MAMMALS PERIOD! I would like to get the same Fish Commission to classify bear and cougar as predators for us like they do for the contractors, then we would all go to hunting them like a coyote....

H.B. 3636 is the one where a license agent ask you the sport hunter to donate money to manage predators, or to fund the Government....Here is a news flash....Sport hunters are a management tool for every state in the nation....NOT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION....

High time to do a realistic documentary into the truth behind what and who will take over and the methods used once we lose our hunting rights....

All I can say is...... Time to wake up sport hunters! California has used USDA to eradicate problem cougar with hounds for years on your dime....I suspect if HSUS has its wish, USDA will take over where sport hound hunters leave off with your bear hunting, and once again...on your dime....and with the use of hounds

Oregon, sport boot hunting is still allowed for both bear and cougar.... where the Fish Commission decides to stick its nose, like private timber lands, you subsidize the slaughter of our Big game mammals called predators. Hound hunting is the only proven method for removing over populated cougar so once again our Fish Commission has sport hunters pick up the tab to replace them in the field with contractor and Government hounds.

Washington State is going all Government hunting and no different than the other two liberal states to the south....

Why not expose the works....Why no documentary to show those animal rights, State legislators, citizen idiots who oppose ethical and select harvest sport hunting with hounds.....Once again I will give you my position here in Oregon....Our Fish folks are quick to keep beating up those select few hound hunters like mentioned by Box Rocker above...A minority few hound hunters who have crossed the line....Bottom line....Those select anti sport hunting, pro Government Fish commissioners label those few hound hunters as "poster children for activism" .....Screw them, these select few can not hold a snow balls chance in hell when you compare the unetical hound hunting to the mandates for slaughtering of both bear and cougar by our State and Federal Governments.....

I had actually watched the 'preview' for the new season of Carnivore from a post that Gary had up here...I was a little concerned that at the end of the show - what Gary said was a California hunt, might have been showing a wounded bear fighting with the dogs and getting killed to the usual yells of "shoot it again".
So I PM'd him (Gary) on June 26th asking him if that was indeed what was happening and pretty much begging and pleading with him that if that was what was going on would he PLEASE do us houndsmen in California, well actuallly ALL houndsmen a favor and NOT SHOW THAT EPISODE ON T.V.!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I never got a response and apparently I was correct about what was going on?
I do not have T.V. and have not yet seen the whole episode so I can't fully respond by my intial reaction goes pretty much like this;
Gary WTF??????? Thanks for totally ignoring me and probably effing me and my dogs even farther...must be nice to live in Texas where there is currently not any pending statewide legislation to outlaw your way of life.
If I have to watch that video at the state capitol on August 8th I will remember this for the rest of my life.

I am sorry I did not see your PM. Let me assure you that no one was beating dogs in a box. All dogs were leashed before the bear was shot from the tree. After hitting the ground, the bear lunged when approached by the hunter. No dog or anyone was in danger of the gunshot.
Over one million households viewed this episode and so far only one negative comment and that was on this site. This proves that you cannot make everyone happy all of the time.
Adios,
Gary

Well, I'm not sure cause I heard from quite a few people now that the episode was truly a 'gem'...not everyone likes to speak up if they are afraid they might rock the boat.

Perhaps you could direct us to an area where all of us without that channel can all watch that episode in it's entirety?
Seems only fair if you want to try and justify your position and me mine.

I have not noticed that folks are not very "shy" on the internet, seems they will say most anything and many times unfounded. Go to Pursuit Channel and click on shows, scroll down to CARNIVORE and you can view most of the shows that have aired. I am not sure if they have the CA show up yet, but they will in the near future.
Adios,
Gary
