ol' Thundarr broke down. im in the market for a new 4x4 atv for hunting my dogs.
is any atv better than the next or are they all about the same?
any and all feedback will help me pick my new 4x4 atv.

Hondas are the only ones that aren't belt driven. They run on hydraulic pressure. They also don't have any right angles in the power train. Eliminating lost power. The only one I WOULDN'T buy is a kawasaki. They recommend the belt be adjusted by a certified tech. every 100 miles. Thats one good weekend of riding.

Unless you hunt open ground, don't get one to big. A 350 has more than enough power for hunting and will get you through more places. Honda's are hard to beat for dependability but are a little behind on tech. stuff because they are so popular (why change a good thing)? I'd try to get one that is fuel injected for easier starts at all altitudes. You might take a look at Suzuki's King Quad 450, has all the trick stuff in a reasonable size. Any of the major manufacturers will be o.k.

Here at 8500 feet, you need the largest CC's you can get. I don't think I've ever seen one smaller then 500cc and most are 650 and larger. You loose about 30 percent of your HP just because of altitude. Make sure whatever you get has locking differential. Otherwise, you'll never have true 4x4. It makes a huge difference when trying to chew through a snow drift. I know Kawasaki's and Yamaha's have it, not sure about the others now, maybe they finally gotten on board. I have two Kawasaki Brute Forces and my buddy has one. No problems now going on 5 years. Another thing I would get now is power steering. I put tracks on one of mine this year and they make steering harder.

The first thing is what do you do with it and how do you want it do and what kind of riding are you doing on it.. Where, the terrain, weight, will you be packing dogs and how many? are you a little mechanically gifted or are your oil changes done at jiffy lube?... Do you have the need for speed or happy at cruising altitude tell everyone that then maybe you can get good advice instead of what everyone else likes their quad to do...

I have a 07 Kawasaki brute force 650 and have had no problems with it,love the power and locking front differential.I also have an 07 Suzuki Eiger 400 that I think will serve the purpose for anything and I think they are the best buy out there.

The Yamaha grizzly 700. Bar -none. There is a reason its has been the number #1 for 2 yrs now.

Why da ya need a brand new one ? ya can pick em up pretty reasonably used and not much abused an fairly newer ! Seams too me for hunting behind hounds a guy might be waisren good moneys on a brand new one when they are in the news paper for sale and best offer gets em/ what do ya think ?

I liek the rhinos. I don't own one, but Bowhunter7's works real nice. I've used others also.

this it what we have found that works best for are kind of hunting,the polaris is pretty much bullet proof and i have never burned a belt. it has high and low range and it is narrow enough to get around the gates,and has plenty of power to hunt or play,good luck with what ever you choose. Brent

Honda for sure,My grandpa's got a new can am (skidoo)if you get it in to much water the damn belt stars slipping

brent thats one cool rig how do those tracks do in the deep snow verses over sized tires
