This year we got some pups where training so the seasoned dog are along and there getting much more of a work out before season than usual. I'm just wondering what everyone else does for getting dogs ready for season opener? Which is about a month out here in wisconsin.

I try to run my dogs at least once a week in the off season and now that we are getting closer to season i try to get them out 3 to 4 times a week to get them into prime running form for the 7 nights a week during season.

Usually kill 60 on up. depends on how much hunting i get to do last year was about 60 cuz i didnt get to hunt like i normally would. but this year im pushin for 100 as long as the wife sticks around and deals with my hunting. LOL. I got too many dogs to not hunt every nite of the week so shes gonna have to deal with me. Last year i ran the same 2 dogs all year so they needed some nights off. this year i have 4 dogs to hunt steady so i should be out every nite.

Yeah im still in college so i cant get any hound until may at the earliest(cause i live in the city). My parents would kill me if i came home on the weekend with a hound, one is one to many as far as there concerned. So we just got one blue tick for now. Do you only run coon?

I used to worry about the 1-2 weeks off inbetween training and kill season but it doesn't bother me too much anymore.
I now figure if the dogs were hunted hard all summer they should be able to keep shape from august 31st to opening day. Big thing is if they got in shape in summer in the first place, IMO. What worries me about the lay-off is the time the dogs had to build up a little "piss and vinegar". Makes that first cold track opening morning a little more interesting
Where you go to school Holzy? I am going to school in the GB area as well.
PM me if you want.
