Casey, I would have to say no, the old timer must have been drinking that day lol. That old hound you are using of mine has seen a fair share of cats but no black ones yet. Andy

I guess its fun to talk about black panthers, but the skin on a shed will be the proof.

i read an article on cougars in the eastern U.S. a while back after a deputy i work with saw one one night. ive heard for 30 years about mt lion and black panther sightenings here in VA, the article was written by a feline biologist and avid hunter, he says that mt lions dont carry the melanistic gene like some animals and the the panthers being scene are either black leopards or jaguars. he also said that 99% of these animals seen were released after being pets(besides from the endangered florida cougar), apparently there is a huge black market for big cat cubs in the pet trade and there are usually several people in each state with cougars as pets. idk just thought it was interesting.
Oh and ive hunted behind hounds for 20 years and never treed one or heard about one being treed in the east.

I just had a guy telling me he had been hearing about one in southwestern montana, he thought it was just a black mountain lion. I am not sure I bye it, but it would be cool to walk up to a tree and see a black cat(:

Well to walk up under a tree with a black cat in it is kinda cool !, especially if the presure ain't on you!!... For the record; I don't believe they exist or we'd all have seen a picture by now from somebody.
(; Now a story about the closest i've been to catching one:)..About 15 years ago a friend of mine calls me about 8:30 one night, doesn't say much and I could tell he wanted to. i knew he was guiding an elk hunter so I just figured he was wantin help packin out or something. Finally he says: I wasn't gonna say anything. but i just gotta know so here goes; We (meaning 2 people) saw a black Lion this evening just before dark we shot at it on the count of 3. One of us hit it cause there's a few specks of blood in a crusted snow patch..(ME) Oh BS! are you sure it wasn't just in the shade?...(him)We knew you wouldnn't believe us!' but would you bring some dogs anyway? (me) Well I've got kids to watch for a couple more hrs. so call me back around 10:30...He does and once again I ask.. are you sure it was a lion?..yes!!..Are you sure it was BLACK!.. YES!!! (he's gettin a little ticked now).
We meet at the spot where he was when the sighting took place' I meet his hunter' we all BS for a munute get the whole run down and then I ask again... Are you sure you saw a Lion?..(now he's really MAD!)... I'll leave some words out...H@ll YA! I know what I saw and it's tail was this long..(hands spread to about 3')... OK, I dump the tailgate at about midnight muttering to the dogs lets go guys were fixin to find out what you really saw...get to the spot, of course NO TRACKS..Dogs finally start cold trailing and we go about a half mile like that; slow enough to walk and keep up. (I'm startin to think...Hmmm mabe he did see a lion) The dogs finally jump it and go across a canyon and start treeing.. I say lets go boys we got a black Lion to look at!
I get to the tree about 50 yards ahead of the others and holler we got im boys!! They start hollerin back.. IS HE BLACK?. IS HE BLACK?.. YUP he sure is!, but he ain't real big.
When my friend walked under that tree and looked up his first words were: That ain't what we saw... After I pointed out the shot off toe .. his next words were: If you ever tell anyone i'll kill you!...Ahhh it's been a good one for 15 yrs...(only weighed about 4 lbs. at best)
"I love when the hounds finish a story"... Later, Jeff

Better get some serious water dogs if you plan on making a cross ocean swim.

so from what I can find, you could just as easily find big foot. there are no known doccumented black lions. I have some people who say they have seen one, trying to decide if its a ghost hunt, or worth looking into it?
