Allright im pretty new to this sport, iv only been into it for a couple of years and i have a question. I have an englishxbluetick puppy that will be 6 months old on the 16th of this month. the thing about him is, is that he is so big. he was weighed last friday as 72 lbs, he is not fat at all and is actaully pretty rugged looking for a pup, i run him with other dogs allot and he is in good shape, so i guess my question is, is this normal? i know its all genetics. and how much more will he grow you think? buying him i wasnt intending on feeding an 80-85 lb dog but it seems like he will reach that in a hurry. And anyone who has had large dogs what is the pros and cons of it, and what size were they? thanks

Don't worry about the size!
if you keep working him and keep him in shape he can keep up with the rest----those clowns that knock the big ones never had a good big one! they will definately spoil you..I worked yhe Cheif dog with the 4 wheeler running him as a young dog-- he was 110 lbs and would definately cover a lot of ground in a hurry.. would cross the river in a heart beat.. and definately got out of pocket way too many times to be called "slow..
If they have the brains to keep, they will get along just fine-- it is not necessarily the size of the dog but the size of his heart and desire.

Big dogs eat more and have more poop, take up more space in the box. Smaller dogs are the opposite but sometimes have a little more challenge in the rocks and bluffs. I wouldn't discount a dog on size, more on brains and feet like driftwood said. I have both and get grief for my big one, but he is a little dopey so he deserves it for that, not his size.

I have 2 rather large dogs and i like them a lot. I have an old male that is 14 and 80 lbs and a 2 year old plott that is 89. for some strange reason i like them big dogs but i still focus more on what a dog does not how big it is.

One good thing about big dogs is you dont have to worry about them getting tore all to rat shit by a bobcat in a 12" culvert.

I like small dogs, 40-55 pounds they seem to run in the mountains better, small, fast, and i can drage 8 out from a tree by my self if i have to. 8dogsx50 pounds = 400 pounds of dogs 5dogs x80 pounds=400pounds of dog, most guys can only drag 3-4 80 pound dogs. i like hunting 8 dogs on bear so i hunt small ones... just my 2 cents...
