Is this a proven method and when do you start doing it? What's the pros and cons? I would love input by good cat hunters dewy Walton give it to me straight!!!

Hotdogs are a builder for the the owner and that is it! It gives the owner a way to play with the pup and that is all it does, you are better off letting the pup out of the kennel and let it explore the yard and outdoors. If you do not have the space to do this at your kennels load him up take him to the woods and let him do his thing. (Focus more on the obidience and handleing of the pup) as its natural instincts will come out when it ready this way when they do, you will be able to control your pup and thats when the FUN will start. I usually only use hot dogs to find out which pup in a litter is the best at using its nose. I toss them a couple yards up wind of the whole litter. After they get the taste for it I'll start dragging one around and hide it then the first one to start looking for it and gets the closest the majority of the time is the one I pick. But I run Catahoula's not hounds. Not that there's a difference to me but it might mean somethin to someone else that its not hound pups.

Like twist, take your pup for walks let him spend as much time in the woods as possible. Dogs see with their nose's let the pup look around. Keep the hot dogs for treats when your pup needs encouragement. thank you. John.

After you get him treeing hotdog, hang some down the road an you will be on your way to making a bad ol strike dog.

I like to do them. As someone else said, it's fun for the owner, but I think it also gets their nose to the ground a little earlier. You can see them figure it out and start using their nose more than sight, and it's fun to watch them progress along. I also noticed that makes the transition into scented drags a little easier since they already know the concept.
