Battle Mtn. area ya can go through ice house Ca. and head on north and find the trail rd hat says battle mtn. and all that youll be in Nev. right shortly but carry climbing rope,capons and belts for rock climbing with ya ! hahaha

I saw guys from California who went there in the later 80`s and took a big toad lion off battle mtn. and they sure needed ropes and rock picks and capons and a climbing belt just too reach the dogs bayed up way on the mtn and they said they saw 2-3 other lion on their climb up the rock and keep on too kill the one their dogs had on a shelf ! Boy it was a good pic too and ended up in full cry or american cooner magzn.
That red haired young hunter was totally proud and said they was goen back ever yr from then on ta due it some more. They came in from the vally floor area not from up by ice house so I wouldn`t know all the ways too hunt it, and suspect you do/ but he is in for quite an experience and some fine cat hunten from what I understand ! I`ve hunted bear behind ice house and uo too battle mtn. and they was usually huge,mean and run brush areas and even was their when a grizzley was killed by a bunch of darkeys and he was killed on the ground in that brush after 38 hrs of bayfighten and boy he was one hell of a load too get killed ! It was the first grizzley in 20 yrs killed in Ca. and was in the sacramento bee and picture and all ! that was in 65 !
You live in a hard hunten hunters good big game area off 5 points and your right on the migratory game trail right ! Lots of Ca houndhunters cut their teeth up along mosquitto ridge and Wolf Creek Pass creek rd area and up too battle mtn and its a great wealth for bear,lion,bobcat and lynxx cat .I wish i still was hunten Id come there and hunt with ya cause I didnt but hunt the west side behinf battle mtn and stoped befor the dogs got way up in them rocky ares cause I didn`t have a Nev license .

We have a year round season here.The non-res tag is $104 plus license. If you have a good rig dog for cats theres plenty of roads near the Ca. border to drive at night.Out here in Elko co. we have pretty decent roads too and PLENTY of open country to walk in on ridges. Usually the better cat country is roadless.If you haed this way shoot me a PM and I'll try to point you into some of my favorite rock piles ( no climbing gear needed....usually) Good luck, Paul

If your headed down south, I would try the "Spring Mtns" between Vegas and Pahrump. Wheeler Pass, Carpenter Canyon, Trout Canyon, Cold Creek, Mt. Charleston areas mostly all have Elk, Mulies, Bobcat and Lions!!! Also some scattered Bighorn, Horses and Burros . Theres a few Hound guys here that chase em up there, but generally its a pretty low pressure area to call or run hounds for cat. Ive personally seen a couple Biggies taken up there.....
