Any ideas

So I'm new to this and only have one hound that I got as a pup. Its been a little slow going with him as I expected with trying to train him on his own. Took him out today just to try to build his confidence cus he has been hunting closeand keeps wanting to check in with me. We had been out a couple hours just hiking through the brush and he was starting to work a little further away but not much. He was probably only out 200 yards tops when all the sudden he blew up with this super high pitch ball. Normally he has a real deep growly ball. He kept it up for about a minute as I bailed over the hill then went silent. He met me about half way back and all the hair was up on his back. I dropped my pack on the groundto check him out cus it sounded like he got his ass kicked. He hunched down and looked at my pack like it was going to get him.. checked him out and went down around where he blew up but didnt show any more interest. ANY IDEAS? Is itnormal for a younger dog to get scared the first time they strike or see something. I suppose he could have got hung in the brush to it was really thick. Thanks
