What do you all think works the best while driving in snow with a truck, wide tires or skinny tires. I know the taller the tires the more clearance but what do you all run on your trucks? Wide......................or Skinny........??????????

Pizza cutters if you want to get anywhere and you have no chains.
I have a double set I use on my 38x13.5R20 Toyo open country mt's, without the chains they're useless, being so wide.

Right them big old wide sand type tires are not much good in deep snow especially if it has a crust on it. Narrow , tall, lots of bit and move it on. Have chains quick and adjusted to each tire and you will get about as far as you want to go. Those freak faty and wide simpleton tires will get you stalled at the first big tuff spot and you will be wondering where the mud and the sand is.

When you have to get out and feed several hundred head of cattle or more in the morning and evening you will know that tall, narrow and lots of bite is the best answer.

I run 33"x10.5"r15 BFG Mud Terrain's on a toyota pickup, work very well in the snow and with chains look out.

I'd have to say the more narrow tires get through the snow better, put chains on all four and you can go...until you get hung up underneath or your engine just can't push you enough. I'd have to say ground clearance on your undercarriage is about the most important thing for getting around no matter what width of tires you have. I hate snow...

I go with the pizza cutters, the wide ones will work fine in shallow stuff but if you get into the deep stuff they tend to spin out alot easier.
I have been syping mine the last couple sets and they seem to go real well in all snow conditions.

I've been having decent luck with a narrower mudder style.. I can't go supper narrow or else they don't last as long and I can't afford it.. .. But They definately aren't big wide ones either..Allot of it depends on the snow.. Right now I'd want a Super Light Truck or Jeep with wider, less agressive tires and try and climb on top.. But I sure wouldn't want anything that could Dig, Snow goes from Bare ground to 3-4 foot and it can be a real pain in the ass to get back on top if you start digging in..

I carry chains but normally if I have to chain up.. It just means that much more digging later so I avoid Chaining up as much as I possibily can.. I have a problem of Going until I get stuck.. and Chains only seam to get me another 1/2 mile or two before I'm high centered bad!.. So I save the chains for the day That I get caught in a blizzard and I have a foot or two fresh snow in the backtracks...Then Chains are used to get my ass off of the mountain....Very rarely do I try and go Up the mountain with them on.. ..;)

taller the better and narrow is the best option for snow. cooper builds a new tire been out about 2 yrs now that is called a cooper discover stt not the old stlye stt it is newer. and it has kevlar in the tire and is the toughest tire i have ever sold or used. i run them on all m hunting trucks and my buddies. they are very noisy but i can live with that for the durability.

They're great in the snow but awful on the ice. Like racing slicks. I ran them last winter and they were bad. The st's are better on ice.

Has anyone else tried the Maxxis Bighorn xt ? I got those for this last season on my Tacoma and they worked AWESOME for me ... there was a lot of times that everybody else quit driving the roads and I kept on driving those roads for a long time , and sometimes if nobody had been in a place for a while , I was pushing wet heavy snow not just dry powdery stuff, , and had it coming over the hood and it just kept on going . I had the mud terrain xt's last year and they were good but these were far better !!!!

As for the skinny vs. wide , I have had the best luck with a medium width to be quite honest . I have heard the theory of skinny and so on , I think it depends a lot on the truck , if you have a big deisel then probably yes . theres .02

Oh BTW I have never put chains on my Tacoma
