Can dogs be to gamey. I have hunted these dogs on horse back, and walked.
The problem I have is there broke when im with them But it dont take long to forget there broke out there aways. They run to catch and I could start a small zoo with offgame.

Oldman,
All I can say is keep after them. It might be a pain in the ass, but I would take a truckload of them. Because when it is all said and done and the dust settles. Those kind make the best kind. Good luck!
Take care, Willie

I would say the problem is breeding. We have a lot of people breeding what you are describing into dogs not out of them. Maybe there is a better way? Dewey

I dont think that its a breeding issue but I do think the only way to clean them up is to show them a truckload of the right game.

Walker 83,
I think I'll have to float my stick the same as you. And I don't believe anyone is a bigger genetics nut then I am. But when we start to believe that we can genetically program these dogs to prefer certain animals when they drop out of the hatch. I think it might be time to regroup a little.
Take care, Willie

I point was not to say we can program the dogs by our breeding, which we can do. The point was that I feel the dogs that are real game aggressive and and are hard to break off trash is because they are bred that way. I very seldom have to shock one of my pups more that three times for trash. Some I never shock just call them off a few times and that's all it takes. Part of that is training but a big part is there intelligence. I feel people have bred for that aggressive hard charging, fighting a roll cage type dog. Those dogs will not be easy to break. They take little direction from you. I will never pick a pup that goes crazy at a roll cage fighting it. That dog will not make what I want in a Bobcat dog. It may make a great bear or coon dog. Very seldom a great bobcat dog. Just My experience which is not what some people agree with. Dewey

Good post Dewey. I watch people look at dogs that wouldn't look twice at a roll cage or a dead cat for that matter and think, that's not much of a dog. I don't say much because I know better....

I tend to think that some bloodlines are much less inclined to be gamey-trashy and can still make good bear dogs. I also like to start discouraging dogs on certain game while they are quite young.
I've had the other kind

I agree with Dewey the trick is to breed bidable dogs that still have the pray drive to get the job done. Theres a dog in my yard that blongs to my son hes as game a dog as anyone would wont yet he will not look a trash wish is a good thing as he goes a long way on a scent and comes up with his hog at the end.
