I was wondering if anyone has tried crossing a bird dog, such as a German Shorthair, with a hound? If so, what were the results?

Have seen it a couple of times--- accidents, they would run and tree...very poor voices on the one I hunted with in the 70's yes they did open on track.. but you would want to make it a terminal cross as doing it again would result in silent trailers

I Have a litter on the way. My shorthair is a super bird dog.Only hunted on quail and pheasant. She can pick up scent of a set pheasant from a 100 yds when she is down wind and hunts with a way higher energy level then the hounds. I crossed her to a very cold nosed walker bluetick that pushes a dry ground cat track very hard. I have another gsp bitch that is fixed and she is CAT CRAZY!! She will start and finish her own bobcat and covers a lot of country to get it done. All free cast dry ground. She can wind a cat from a distance but will not put her nose to the ground and trail A cold track. They have super drive and are super smart. Alot of people hunt them on big game and hogs and cross them so its nothing new but I'm excited.

I had an accidental breeding between my black and tan bitch and my fox red labrador retriever. One of the pups now works with our local SAR team and is doing well. Could be a good combo in the future here in California. I ain't bear huntin' warden, this here is a bird dog. hahaha -Pete

. There is a guy in AZ that runs hound with a 1/4 GSP in them. If you look them up they use them for everthing in their home land.

Its a great cross, although i prefer to cross with an english pointer. It adds the range that i like in a dog. Great noses and they hunt deep and run silent. Very intellegent too.
