Hello Im new to this forum and wanted to pick your guys brain on Curs. I have had hounds in the past, but with are rule changes in Washington got out of the game a few years ago. I always had Walkers but with having 3 kids and limited time Im looking more for a family dog I cant take everywhere. I want to be able to take my boys out hunting coon, and have a great family dog aswell and the Cur breed seems to fit this bill great.

I think I have it narrowed down to Mountain cur, and Blackmouth Cur but dont really know enough about the difference in those breeds. I have not been able to find anyone that breeds them close to Washington. Any info you guys have regarding these dogs and where the best place it get one would be great.

i can only speak for the black mouth curs but if you got some that come from a good working bloodline i think you would be happy, i use my BMC's for hog hunting and you cant ask for a better dog, they are very intelligent and seem to mature faster than a hound in my opinion, they for the most part are silent on track, and gritty with a high prey drive. they are a hotter nosed dog than a hound. I bet you could find some BMCs in california as alot of those guys use them for hog hunting. good luck with your search.

I used to run walkers but for the same reason gave em up. I got a bmc last spring and love the dog. She is great with the family (very protective). I agree with curdogfl. I think you would be very happy with a bmc. The only bad part is not hearing the hounds.

Do you use your bmc on coon? If so, how does it up here in western washington? I know they are good dogs, but are mostly used down south. Is your dog from one of the treeing bloodlines?
