You got me excited. Thought I was going to get to look at some "Kitty Porn"! I haven't seen it. Sounds like one hell of a cat though.

I saw a photo on trapperman, but I am un sure if its the same cat or not.

Not to take anything away from this Wi. cat as it a monster. I looked at the article and it said that largest Mn. cat verified was 38 .7 lbs. we harvested one a few years back that was 48lbs. and some change in Mn. also took one 14 or 15 years ago that was flirting with the 50lbs. mark. I read a few years back of one I think it was in Maine that went 72lbs. it is a huge cat by any standards though, and Congrats goes to the hunters that harvested him. This Wi. cat was taken in 2009, just got done doing some research.

South Texas, how big was that cat you and Richard caught east of Dilley several years ago??? These are honest gentlemen and folks that I trust. I have folks coming by quite often telling me about 40 to 50 pound cats but I doubt they ever saw a scale. It takes a big cat to weigh 25 pounds from South Texas as most will weigh less than will weigh more. I keep getting reports of some 40-50 pound cats out west of here. I am going to try to get on a couple of ranches out there and see if there is anything to all the stories.
A reputable buddy of mine showed me a photo of a female that he claims weighed 49 pounds he killed near Valentine. He claims to have killed a male that weighed 50 on the same ranch.

a 52 lb cat is a huge cat!! I know 2 people that have got a cat over 50 lbs in mn. Both were snared, i have never caught a cat over probly 30 lbs. Any cat over 40 lbs is a giant so anyone that says they caught a cat over 50 lbs all i can say is i would like to see a picture of it lol!!! But congrats on the monster to whomever caught it.

Largest bobcat I ever caught in southwestern oregon weighed 33#, it was weighed on a certified hound club scale. There is a good picture of the Wi. 52# cat on the news article section of this web site, it does look like a dandy. The largest bear I ever got in this area was 428# also weighed on the club scale. This bear was taken in a bayup by Bill Mcspirite and I. Eastern oregon does produce bigger cats so I am told. For several years seemed I would catch about one 30# bobcat a season. However most realize the larger cats are on average easier to tree than a 12 to 17 pound female. A 25# bobcat is for sure a nice tom around here with most averaging about twenty or less. Al

I have caught two in my life time that weighed 36# and 2 that weighed 35# and those were BIG, real big...most will be less than 30 and 95% less than 25#..seen some in pictures that looked big but them scales will shrink them every time!! As them deer hunters will say bigger than a dog....lol

If that picture aint photo chopped??? it is a big un...bet he wouldnt have the lungs to run very long....but would love to put some mutts behind him!!

I think if the north american record is under 52# we better start getting official wieghts on some cat's.

Yes, that is a big cat. But that is an old article, and may have been poorly researched. Weight records are pretty much tongue in cheek. I dont know about all states. But, most records are by skull size. Weight is only a secondary thing that could be completely irrelevant. 20 pounder with a real big head could be the next world record.

MI record was at 52lbs. Heard of a 63, but dont know the current record. Not sure what official measurements were. Nor, what WI is currently. Have heard of 70+ monsters in Maine!

Every year in both WI, MN and MI there are a few 40+ taken every year. 25-35lbs are very common. Hear stories of a few 50's every year, but mostly stories. Do know of a legit 54 that was hit by a car. Are people guessing or using scales. Who knows, but it sounds good. Perhaps more of the larger cats need to be submitted for the books?

WI may be able to produce some larger, or at least fatter cats. Just because they get to live longer with our lack of tags. I forget the exact number because I'm trying to block the bad, but it was around 160 this year. There is already talk of reducing the tags again for next year. There has been low tag numbers for a lot of years now. At least a few should get older.

Gary, we caught a tom near Utopia in the 1970s that weighed 35 pounds on a feed store scale. When we skinned it we discovered that it was very full of deer meat. This was just after deer season ended and assumed it had found a dead deer. The deer meat certainly added several pounds to the weight.

I kill a 36lb tom last winter in wisc.We ran him four hours before he was ware out. He look just as big as the dog standing there. Here is a picture of him laying on top of dog box.

Steve, the michigan record is unofficial as far as I know. If you ask who killed the state record cat you get a few different names mentioned.
Regardless, Its word of mouth. I see the weights a lot of guy's are claiming here in the U.P. and have to bite my lip.
Also, no weights are taken when you take the cat to get sealed.
SCTX, you hit it, a 35lb cat here can be 40 one week and 35 the next. Most cats are killed with an empty belly around here. Big woods and a full stomach keep the cats tucked away for awhile until its time to hunt(move) again. Its not true 100 percent of the time but is for sure the norm.
