I read on here and I have used it in the past on my hounds.
My question Does ivemec kill all internal parasites in dogs.
I used it to prevent heart worms but my hounds need wormed and want to see if it kills round-whip-hook worms or should I just use panicur.
I have the ivemec I would have to buy the panicur.

ivomec does not get all of the hookworms unless you are giving a dose that can cause seizures.
nor does it get tapes.
not all dogs have seizures with the strong dose.
if you get the hookworm problem under control, and have a clean kennel, you can get by with the ivomec But why take the chance.. adult dogs are not as affected by hookworms as pups. they can get rid of a whole litter in just a few weeks. a neighbor of mine used piperzine to worm a litter and by 5 weeks old they were all dead except 1 that left there early.

Thank You for the replies.
OK an old coon hound guy back in IL used Strongid Paste to worm dogs (pyrantel pamoate) would you guys recommend this and if so do you say it would get most types of worms? I have some of this already.
Also safe-guard (fenbendazole) would this work for dogs?
Went to the vet yesterday and they gave me a panicur-something else mix and I am going to give it to the pups this morning. Says it only has to be given once and not weekly for 3-4 weeks like some other products.
Can get that for the adult dogs but was looking for a more economical route but I guess $7 a dog would not be to bad.
If you guys would what do you use and what in your opinion is the best?
Tim
Any thoughts on this stuff?

One thing I might add to the post that wasn't made clear, is use (injectable Ivomec) and give the dosage orally.
I've used this recipe for years but on Birddogs I now use it on my hounds. It will get everything but tape worms and also controls external parasites , fleas, ticks, mange mites and flies to some extent. I've been told it caused sterility with long term use, didn't have any effect on mine. It can cause death with over dosage.
To avoid overdose: A good recipe to use is mix ( 1 cc of (Injectable ivomec) to 10 cc of (propylene glycol) and then use 1 cc of that mix to every 10 lbs of dog weight. ie: 60 lb dog would get 6 cc's of the mix. Hope this helps.
P.S. don't use on bred females as this stuff is purty potent and will kill the pups and cause abortion.

Strongid paste will get round worms and hookworms not whip worms nor tape worms.
Safe guard if used right will get rounds, whips and one type of tape worms.. yes I use it in a rotation.. on a 60-80 lb dog I use 1/3 of a 25 gram tube a day and do that for 3 days. it does take a bit more on dogs than on horses.-- it is the same stuff as panacur-- just have to adjust the dosage

Guys I only used 1cc per dog every 30 days and injected under the skin. Never used 1cc per 10 lbs. body weight. And kept kennels clean. As stated that worked well for everything except tape worms . Al

Al: I think you missed part of my post. I was talking about using the mixed recipe ( 1cc ivomec / 10cc propylene glycol, then use 1 cc / 10 lbs of dog ) not the straight stuff and I don't inject it , I use it orally. I never tried injecting ivomec but only used it orally. Stuff must taste terrible because they sure don't like it. I squirt it on the back of the tongue and keep their nose higher than their eyes until they swallow. Give it just before you feed and only every 30 days. Like it was said before this stuff (ivomec) is potent don't OD.

ivomec dosage should be 1/10th of a cc/ml per 10 lbs. So if you have a 60 lb dog it should get .6 of a cc. I also prefer orally vs. subQ. Don't administer to dogs under 1.
Also a word of caution: DO NOT use ivomec PLUS. it has a deadly ingredient for dogs.
I have been told, if you use Pyraquantal or Canex plus ivomectin you will be keeping your dogs essentially worm free.
Just passing this info on.

I use horse wormer ,Equimax I think. It has 1.87% ivermectin/14.03% praziquantel. It has the same ingredients as Zemectrin Gold but it is stronger and cheaper than Zemectrin.I usually give mine 1 notch for each dog (110 lbs horse dose). I can worm I think 12 dogs on 1 tube.I worm aout twice each summer.

praziquantel gets your tapes at the proper dosage 4 types pyrantel pins and rounds ivermectin heart worms and a few rounds. When used at a higher than dosage than Mr Baldwin described will get whips also. None of the horse wormers have enough praz to be effective on tapes when used anywhere near recommended dosages and about 20 times more ivermectin. than you need for heart worms. (DING DING).
