I been doing this hound dog thing for alot of years but still appreciate input from the "pros" out there. Got a couple dogs that are doing the following.........dog one has been on a hand full of game but still barks like hell in the box if I drive by deer, elk, ect......should I shock her in the box??? Dog two, when I am roading them, she will chase my other dogs and open the whole time she is following them......should I shock her?? This dog is also a bit growly in the box......should I shock her for this?? This dog has seen quite a bit of game and is a pretty good dog. I've always thought that to much electricity is not a good thing that's why I need some input on this. Both dogs have a ton of potential and I just don't want to ruin them. Thanks.

I am not a veteran but this seems to work for me as my dogs will not trash if I hunt them regularly. If they have been on plenty of game when they trash i pull over and immediately correct them by yelling and showing them i am not happy with them and maybe tone them too no shock. If it happens again they get bumped with the collars. I would be careful about getting ignorant with a young dog because a trashy young dog just wants to hunt and i would not want to knock some of the hunt out of them. Most generally the dogs understand when you are not pleased but some just dont care. As for growly dog in the box it needs to be corrected right when it happens so the dog knows that it is not acceptable behavior. I wont say on here how i got my walker dog turned around but i definitely had a fight on my hands and he didnt win, after that he handled great. Once you get some manners put on them keep working on them and they should mellow out. I got some breaking scents but never tried them because i found it better to not let anything wrong slide. Definitely be firm but not heavy handed. if that rambling makes any sense

You could send dog#1 up to me. Sounds like you may have a natural rig dog with a little cleaning up.

think like a dog thats usually hard to do but really sit back and think about that and you will find the answer your looking for and it might be different from your buddy's and thats ok because there is more than one way to skin a cat

The first dog I would scold but not shock. I wouldn't shock a young dog on the rig any sooner than I'd shock one on the tree. There is a time and place for deer breaking. If you said she was 4 and had been on 100's of bears, lions, whatever, it would be different. The second dog I would discipline appropriately for the running around barking thing. No reason for that, can cause problems with other dogs later. The growling in the box? Depends on what you mean. Growly is different to different people. A little growl at a dog that stepped on her after a hard race wouldn't bother me. A growl every time I loaded her up with another dog would get her corrected. I don't think shock collars being used on a growly dog is a good thing. It's a good way to start a full blown fight. When she growls, pull her out of the box and use a switch on her. Let her know it's not okay.
