Hey Everyone,
Okay, I know that everyone is at a different level in their hunting. There are outfitters, guys that run hounds and do nothing else; fishing, vacationing, ect..., there is different hunting seasons in your area and a lot of other factors. I realize this and the question I have is probably so vague that it can't be answered but I am going to ask it anyway. I live here in Oregon and limited on the hunting I can do. I am not going to cheat. I have a fishing guide service and hunting outfit. I can't afford cheating besides I am not good at having to look over my shoulder. So, the question is, for an average hound hunter like me, what is a good amount of exercise for my dogs? I will be running bobcat here in Oregon and lions in Wyoming. Right now, I get my dog out 1-2 times a week and she roads about 12-15 miles. I do it in the mornings because of the heat. She looks good. The reason I am asking is the last couple weeks I have talked to a couple hound guys and told them what I was doing and all of them were wowed how much I get her out. Then I talk to others and they are getting their dogs out a lot more. I realize there are a lot of factors in this. But, am I on track of having my dog doing okay for this season? I was out with another guy the other day and that dog was his better dogs yet couldn't go a couple miles without resting then he had to put her back on the box. My dog was looking back wondering what was wrong. I appreciate any advice.

sounds like you are doing good to me.... i run mine 1-2 time a week for about 6-8 miles each time, at about 14-18 mph, in the off season. i try to not break them down to bad but make them feel it a little

I think you are doing fine with that. We road ours about 3 times a week for about 8-10 miles in the off season.

you are fine. some people weird or different ideas of what to do. If your dog is responding fine then no worries, just keep an eye out for the pads. and an eye out for the area you are running them in. I don't know about Oregon but in Washington most places aren't ok to road in. So be safe to double check.
