I killed 4 bob cats from my stand one evening. trust me I haven't put a dent in them. You guys that hunt them could give me some pointers how train me a good pack. Thanks for any help.

Mr. Crump, what part of Texas is your lease and how many acres is it? If you don't mind me asking.

Go to the training tips forum on this site, the first thread is titled "mike leonard's catdog training method". Read it and give it a try. I have heard people say it won't work where they are, and it may not, I don't know. But it works pretty well here and I don't know any reason why it won't work anywhere. Remember, it won't give you a finished dog, only lots of time in the woods will do that, but it can help you get your dogs started.

Good luck

Bill

Hey T, sent you a pm. Like Bignblue asked" tell us where abouts your hunting at. There are others that look on here and my be able to help. Go to the Bobcat page and read EVERYTHING on it. Three of us were driving down the highway about 3 miles from my home about 8 years ago and had a longtail cross right in front of the truck. It was really neat and without a doubt a lion.

I would start with the Lions first.....When I first started hunting cats I was real fortunate and hooked up with a fella that knew what he was doing and showed me the ropes. I bought a female and bred it to his male and had my first litter. After a couple years my friends old dog died and he retired from hound hunting. I was catching every cougar I ran at that time. Then within 3 months of each other my 2 dogs died and cat season was a month away. My cousin had a full brother but the mutt never been off the couch, not hunted once. He gave me the dog back and I took Duke out that season and basically started walking down every cat track I found. Track for track we walked, This was way before GPS and I couldn't afford Telemetery. I remember one time a buddy and I stopped and looked at a cat track, followed it and it crossed behind the truck on top of our tire tracks, I grabbed Duke and started waking, it took 6 hours to catch that cat and it was smoking hot. When I got to the tree I kicked it out a couple of times. I did this all season, walking down a cat and getting the cat to jump once treed , After 2 or 3 cats Duke would walk with me until the cat was running then he would take off and tree it. By the end of the season he was tracking from truck to and tree. I maybe caught 6 cats, cant remember how many I started. That spring and summer I kept working him, let him tree and work a roll cage. The next cat season he killed me 5 Bobcats. He ran bobcats dead silent to the day he died . After 20 years I still consider him the best Cat dog I have ever owned. It is by far the hardest method to train a dog but it can be done.
