just wondering if its just here or is it all over that from about the middle of December to about sometime in march, you will find a male fox miles away from where he lives, and will always go back the same way he came, found one Thursday night that went to town, and got me in a bad situation with dogs all up in between houses, highways and cops, almost lost a few being to traffic on busy roads, fox are really smart they want them dogs off himself, cause as long as the cars aint coming he will leave the road but let one round the corner and he will make the turn coming to the road, and will be there the same time the car is, thought I was going to get them all killed, finally got enough and pulled the trusty shotgun out and poped off 3 loaded them and then almost went to jail hahaha

Southernfox I've seen them do that here too. Guess the male fox is just like buck deer in the rut. They do some traveling this time of year. I've had dogs killed on the highway from reds hitting the center line and running it a half mile or so. I've been in those situations around houses many times. I turned out about a half mile past a house one night down a wing ditch into a block of woods where I had always had good luck jumping greys or a coyote. It was hot dry summertime so I had been casting after midnight. Dogs had been gone for an hour and no bark. Then one opened up down the rd and they jumped and were running the hair off something right to that house. When I got there I had about 8 dogs under that house trying to stretch the hide on those people's house cat. Needless to say yes they woke up and weren't very happy. No critter was stirring that night except for that ole cat and boy was he in the wrong place. Took me a while to talk my way out of that one.

Red fox has caused me more problems going where they shouldn't than grays. One night 5 or 6 of us were running a red (25 or 30 hounds ) and it run right through the alleyway of a horse barn. Man you talk about a ruckus going on there. Luckily he pulled out of that area and we were never confronted about it. And was running a red the night my whole pack was wiped out on the highway.

Scrubbrunner. You ever had the chance to run your dogs in the snow in fla lol. Looks like we may get that chance here in Deep South Mississippi this week.

No we did wake up one morning at our deer hunting camp a few years ago and it was snowing, it covered the trucks and piled up a little on top of the windshield wipers. Looked kind of strange seeing snow lightly piled up on palmetto fans. It melted when it hit the ground but was snowing hard enough you could only see 50 or 75 yards at daylight. Didn't effect the hounds in anyway. Have hunted here when the water in the ditches was frozen over good enough the hounds could cross it without falling through but it wasn't thick enough to hold a person, I tried it.
