I'm catching more skunks than coons. I think I finally got the bait and lures down but what else do you guys do to help catch more coon. Do you cover you traps or leave them exposed? Right now its 35-50 degrees out so what's some cold weather tips. Thanks

I've been told that skunks won't climb to get into a trap.

I only use marshmallows and the only thing I have ever caught is coon.

traps should be covered at all times. Mix some antifreeze with your dirt and use that to cover the trap. Any trap supply place should have antifreeze to mix in with your dirt. Waxed traps also help and you can also use buck wheat hulls. Make sure you are using pan covers.

I have caught lots of skunks on marshmellows. Elevate your trap, keeps the skunks out. ;)

Only way I have found to keep skunks out of live traps is to elevate them, cause a skunk will eat any kind of bait. I put my live traps up on a small bale of hay when I'm trapping on the farm and it works good:) another trick I've figured out for live trapping coons in cold weather is use hard cat food cause even when it freezes it still has quite a bit of smell to it. Hope this helps
