Bucket traps

Has anyone ever used the bucket trap kit, if so have you caught anything in it. I've tried my darndest to cetch even an old house cat in mine and no luck so far. I've set the trap were a big family of coons live and they walk right past it. I've used bait such as tuna,sardines,peanut butter,marshmellows,dry cat food as well as wet cat food and about the closes I have come is they will eat the marshmellows right up to the entrance and stop. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, any info or suggestions would be greatfull.

i have never used a bucket trap. i have found that i dont use any lowering bait to bring them in the cage. i use cat or dog food with vanilla or marshmellows and syrup. i put any bait in a water bottle and hang it in the trap with the top cut off and then i also cut holes in the bottle.

If you're talking about a five gallon bucket, I would say it is too short to catch a full size coon. Remember, the larger the trap for just about any animal, the better chance you have of catching them. I use traps that are 30 inches long for coons. Another problem may be that if the coon has ever been caught before, it will be trap shy. For trap shy coons, take a trash can and lay it over with the trap inside. Camoflage the trap with trash inside and out. Works every time for hard to catch coons in urban areas.

I use the bucket traps from the Snare Shop, it's two five gallon buckets together and I have probably caught 100 skunks and 50 coons in them. They work excellent, escpecially on coons that are a bit afraid of a cage trap.

Fred, How the heck do you get the skunks out of there? I use the 9x9 plastic catch traps for skunks. I have a 15# tank of CO2 on the truck with a 4 foot hose attached to a piece of plywood that fits snug in the end of the 9x9. About 2 minutes of laughing gas and those buggers become flat out tame! In fact, I never hear another peep out of them.

They are very calm in the bucket traps. I just walk up and put them in the truck and drive to an area and release them. I let them get out about 20 yards downwind and whistle at them and when they turn around and stand up to look at me they get a face full of #6s. No fuss, no mess.
