What are the dates of the Utah training season? Is it a statewide season?
Here in MI we start July 15 and go to Sept. 15 (start of kill season)

It starts Saturday the 12th of July and Runs until August 13th. They took away our fall pursuit season (except Nov) and this is what we got in return. Better than nothing but it is not nearly as fun as the fall season used to be. It's HOT HOT HOT! If you have a kill tag then you can hunt the fall so I guess that's the secret. Find someone with a kill tag!
The summer pursuit is statewide with the exception of one unit that I know of.
Does MI have a spring season?
Ha!

My buddy is on the mountain camping and hunting with his dogs, my dogs and some others he's hunting for buddies. I got a date with some king salmon in Alaska until August.
He just called me and so far Sat. and today their camp has treed 6 bears, he was on his way out looking to catch his third bear today. Pretty good start and he's staying on the hill until it ends in August.
If I catch as many fish as he catches bears this next month, I'll be a happy camper.

Ike wrote:Yeah, it sure sounds like that San Juan Unit has alot of bears dawg. I spoke to a couple guys who hunt that unit last spring, and they said, "you don't have to drive two miles to find a fresh bear track. If you don't, then just wait a few minutes and then drive down your back-trail and you'll have had a fresh bear cross since you did."
Man, it's just hard for me to imagine a place like that.
The San Juan isn't a whole lot different than other places where bear reside Ike. If you're on top of a food source where the bear are concentrated, then yeah, the unit can be as you're friends described. But hunt those same roads two weeks later and you might not get a peep. That's just the nature of bears.
When you're looking for your elk Ike, try the area around the Bears Ears and Cottonwood. It's a community passtime around Blanding and Monticello to glass for big bulls just outside town, so you'll have a lot of competition for those elk. You go farther west and you're more likely to have the mountain to yourself.
