whats the best type of food for a feeder other than dog food...may consider setting one up..

Soured corn works. just soak it in water for a while. I don't use it but I've seen other guys.

I use bucket feeders with dog food and have been using the Fusion also. Pics and directions for making a bucket or pipe feeder are on my web site.

If you're not to high class you can buy any kind of roled corn in 50 pound bags for way cheap and just dump it on the ground. It doesn't take them long to find that stuff.

I use pvc pipe with dog food works great around here. doesn't take 'em long to find if u put it where coons are and makes it easy for the young dogs to find a coon to trail and tree. Usally a short race but it gets the young dogs going on trailing and treeing.

I didn't think feeding game animals was legal in Washinton.

the way the game department explained it to me you can bait any game animal u want as long as it is not a bear. I had found this out by coyote huntin and called the gamies to ask if it was legal to bait in yotes with live or dead animals and they said as long as it was not ediable part of game animals you could bait anything but bear.

We use Canned cat food for the live trap/But nothing beats Crawdads just give some of them the stomp,and or a little yellow belly Cat works good to.Now if you want a big amount of coons bait them every evening with Crawdads.Or any natural food for them.Its harder to get there confidence by introducing them to something they dont get on a regular basis.Make sure that you put the craw fish near a pond or a freshly dried up pond.They will come out of every direction within 7 days of baiting them consistantly. Good luck this has worked for us every time.

It's illeagal in Washington to bait Big Game animals...that's the story I got.

Year's ago I came across a Bobcat eating on an elk gut sack, I started to wonder if that would be considered Baiting? since I normally bring in an officer every year to my hunter ed class. I asked this question.

You not allowed to bait Deer, Elk, Bear, or cougar..Basically any big game animal.

but you can bait bobcat, coon, and small game.

Yeah that maybe Buddy ?? When I had asked I never asked about Deer or Elk because I don't them. But all the officer told me was that you can not bait a bear never said anything about any of the other animals but there again I never asked either.

I've had coon feeders for about 15 years and I've used just about everything, I like sour corn but latey I can't keep the bears from ripping the buckets off the tree. I've tried sweet feed and dry corn but the deer like both of those too. I think the best thing I've used is game fish food for ponds, it looks like dog food but smells like fish,works great but its about $15 for 50lbs.

And, the line is not quite black and white.
You can hunt big game over a "naturaly occuring bait" such as berry fields, orchards, a dead animal that died of natural causes that was not touched by man, hay fields and even planted food plots. Just don't toss food out for them or hunt over the old milk cow you put down last week. It's what happens when city people (Seattle) make game laws.

Treeing walkers.. sorry I didn't see your reply earlier.. Yea I didn't know anything about it but like I said, before I had hounds that was how I shot my first bobcat... Wish I could take it back but I can't it was a small cat maybe a year or two old.. Not a trophy but in the heat of the moment and the short time to make a decision that's what it came out too.

Nice thing about Hounds is the hunt isn't in the trigger moment to be successful.

Anyways that's how I learned about the technicallities of baiting in WA.
