what is everyone using for handhelds or truck radios for communicating with your hunting buddies? are you guys using just your run of the mill walkie talkie or are you using handhelds that you are having to get programmed to your own frequency. if you are getting them programed are you getting a license for the radio or just running the chance of getting caught. has anyone been caught without a license

Marine band radios, the mobiles are usually 1/25 watts and the hand helds are 1 to 6 watts. Some guys put the mobile radios on their wheelers, I use a handheld with a speaker mic so its close to my ear while riding. They are technically illegal to use on dry land but they have been used by most hound hunters in the area for quite some time with no issues. Just have to be careful with the GPS and keying up on high power.

Motorola GP-68 and BaoFeng UV-B6 for handhelds. Motorola Radius GM300 for the truck. All programmable FM radios.
