New guy in the game.

I am really new at running hounds, and I ran my two today, that haven't been ran in a while. First time on a track for me, one took off really well smelling every individual track. The other just followed along behind me, the track was from last night-early this morning. The one dog ended up losing the track about a mile in, and the other dog never took off, I appreciate any and all advice.

if you can find someone to let you tag along and walk those dogs into a tree then hope the lion jumps and let those two chase it only takes one time for a good dog to start trailing a little then just keep working at it like your doing and it wont take long for them to figure out what to do

Did you go in to where your dog lost it to try to figure out why? There is a good chance it was treed and your dog just couldn't locate it. I have always had more treeing issues with young dogs than trailing issues.

Where do you live in I'd I've got a good fiend in emmet that got me in to hounds when I was 15

after reading your post, one piece of advice I will give you is, don't get caught up in trying to guess the age of a track. don't matter how old or how hot, they either smell it or the don't. trying to put a age on a track will lead to many heart breaks and to start out of the gate with that mind set is self destructive in my opinion. when your young dogs get more game on them they will take older, harder tracks. welcome to the forum and good luck.
