I realize this isn't the normal topic on the BIG Game Houndsman forum.... but I'm hoping to find some locals that might want to give my girl a chance this year at finding their "uncovered" deer kill.......and I want to share this with the Majestic houndsman out there....We're still in the very early stages of training....My 16 week old Ally girl conquered her second blood trail like a pro......In rubber boots to conceal human scent, I laid out a 40 foot trail in the woods..drips every foot or so.........zig zagging and s curving.......let it sit for still just a half hour.....still a fairly basic trail......When it was time to load up and go find daddy's deer, I let her smell the blood on my fingers from when I put out the hide, and she went crazy....
Upon arrival she beat me out of the truck......a short walk to the beginning of the trail and she took off.....
She literally covered the trail in 15 seconds to get her deer hide reward at the end.......I almost had to pry it from her mouth.......
Training is going great so far............

Easy Now This is a First time for Stan .. Slow and Easy is just Fine, Blood Tracking Training must be very Presice, the Blood drops may be 30' feet apart and over 24 hours old so you don't want to push a pup to hard and fast .. Very slow tracking stick to the Blood only..

I don't understand why someone's comments about working with a new hound pup need to be met with insults using primitive-level sarcasm.

This forum is for folks who want to talk about hounds. And furthermore, this particular forum is for talk about Majestics. Here you have someone who is trying out a hound pup and is excited about it. That itself should be welcome and supported (escpecially by other houndsmen and women) in today's world where there are fewer and fewer of us everyday. Some of us run a hard, grizzled pack of hounds 100 times a year in backcountry for bear and lion and get rid of (violently or otherwise) any hound that doesn't perform at peak level....but there are others of us who love this as a hobby and run an 'ole hound or two that probably can be outworked but is a buddy to us or our kids....but we are ALL in it because we love hounds.

I've never formally used a trained bloodtrail hound and I don't know if the progress of this one is good or bad. But I am sure glad to see and read about some folks fooling with a hound (and a real pretty one at that) and enjoying it enough to share the experience with those who read this forum. So keep on telling us about the pup....
