Let's see what everybody uses for a dog sled (pull behind a snow machine). Going to start building one, and just wanting to get some ideas and rough dimensions.
How high off the ground and how wide?
Post your pics, and let's hear your ideas.

As said same width as you machines ski's, on height my old one was up high and worked a buddy built one and put it on aluminum and just above his ski's, I thought it wasn't gonna work at all but it does quiet well. I don't have any pics but the one I'm gonna build this year will be on ski's up 6-8 inches and be a plasitc barrel with a door. Saw on a Lancaster's movie a guy had one and I wanna give it a go.

I've had several sleds. The plastic toboggan type work much better. No skis. Anything with skis will tip over on the slightest slop.

Get a orion industries utility sled. They are awesome they have coil over shocks. Me and the guys I hunt with pull them never have problems and they dont flip over. I have a guy here in Craig that makes one just like it call Wayne at 970-629-2966

Big Cat,
How many dogs and or weight do you haul on your sled. I am looking for something else as I am tired of pulling my jalopy around. $900.00 seems like lot but I really like the shock idea. My question is weight, to haul 3 to 4 dogs, dog box, chainsaw, and snowshoes you start getting pretty close to the 400 lb. limit.

Here's my set up. I used to have a diamond deluxe box on the sled with a rack, which i kind of liked better. It only fit 3 max. The kennel works well too. It has had 4 in it. My dogs are all on the smaller side. It usually has a kennel cover on it that keep all the snow out. The skis move on the sled which seems to help on rough roads. It was inherited so I can't complain too much. If I ever have to make another one, I'd use aluminum with plastic skis or some wide powder skins for the skis. It's probably 8 inches off the snow which seems to be about right.

With the guys that are using skis instead of a solid base, how do you keep them from tipping over when you get on a slope or drift?
