I have an 8 year old b&t/blue that had bloody, stringy looking diarreah today and then tonight it was very black looking. Pleaseif anybody has any ideas let me know. The friend i got her from told me she had a hernia previously and I'm wondering if she re injured it.

Well if it went from blood red to black and tarry it seems to be possible. I would guess its something deeper then a hernia and if its causing repeated bloody stools you should be at the vets soon

If she is off her feed It could be salmon poison which needs to be treated here in Oregon. Dewey

One of my buddies hounds ( I think she was 7 year old walker blue mix) started loosing weight, and started having hard coal black stool. Took her to the vet, and he couldn't figure it out, so they cut her open and her insides were riddled with cancer. I'm sure there is more than one reason for those systems, but I just take her to the vet.

When I put fresh bedding in winter( I don't use anything in summer) I always get some stringy bloody stool for a few days. My dogs will chew on fresh hay or shavings and it must scratch the stomach.
