I was just wondering what bullet everyone that hunts with a 3030 shoots. I just picked one up for my kids to shoot and I really want them to kill there first bear this year. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Go to Wal-Mart or your hardware store and buy a box of Remington 170 Gr. Core Locts or a box of Federal 170 Gr. and you are in bear business. I don't recommend lighter bullets and although I use to love old Winchester Silvertips I have no experience with their current Power Points on big bears. Core Loct. Remington's just work. No need for premium priced bullets or even the Hornaday Lever-Evolution because bear hunting with hounds is a short range proposition.

Sight your 30-30 to hit the bottom of a 50 Cent piece at 25 yards and you are ready to ruin Mr. Bruin's day. If angle requires this bullet will break the nearside shoulder range in and devastate the heart lung area and you will have a very dead bear quickly. Stay calm, stay steady and squeeze..................................

Good luck!

The first choice I would recommend would be a 170grn federal fusions. Second choice would be 170grn remington cor lokt. Hopefully this helps.

I just picked up a box of Winchester power max bonded bullets in 170 grain. I am going to shoot them some and go from there. Thanks for the advice I am going to look for the other recommendations as well and see what the gun shoots the best

I have never had a problem putting down a bear with any grain 3030 bullet . I love the 3030 round for bear .

I'm a huge fan of bonded bullets, that being said they perform better at higher velocities than the 30 / 30 produces. Good shot placement with any 30/30 round will get the job done.
