Just looking for advice, do's and don'ts, of introducing new pups to a pack from you folks with more experience. How long do you keep pups separate from your older dogs? Thanks in advance.

Well is it a right week old pup dropped in a kennel of thirty hounds or four month old meeting three various aged dogs? I don't really do much to introduce my own hounds. Pups are born out of the kennels here because I have a single large house in each kennel with 4-6 hounds per kennel. So the pups are whelped in a large yard in front of the kennels. Hounds are pretty consistent in how they interact with various age groups and don't ever really over do any punishment or play and as long as the pups arent overly timid they don't seem to mind being rolled around or whatever is happening. The down side is they all get stepped on by horses or cows when they're older since they have no sense of personal space. And I don't drive or let anyone else drive in that area tractors quads etc. Otherwise they just don't respect them and risk being run over later on.
I do have more then one kennel So pups raised in one might be new to dogs in another. But it isn't usually a issue they just meet n great and it's over. They actually seem better at keeping track of who each other is then I am with out a pedigree. The only real issues I've ever seem are dogs that are food aggressive biting a pup or young adults baying and scaring shy pups into running and getting wound up. The solution to those issues is no food aggressive dogs and keeping all the hounds in mixed aged groups.

I have a 10 week old male pup and 3 3ish yr old males.The 3 older dogs were all raised together so I wasn't too worried about rough housing as they were all more or less at the same size/age.

I don't let puppies mix with older dogs until they are at least 4 or 5 months old. It only takes 1 bite to kill or cripple a little puppy.I maybe overly cautious but that's how i do it.

Pretty much like pegleg said, My puppy pen is right next to the big dog pen so they know them already . Right now I have 4 pups just shy of 3 months old that spend all day with the big dogs now. This works for me and this line, but may not work for everyone or every dog.

My setup is the same as mentioned above. My dogs all have separate 5x10 pens, but are all turned out into a large yard off the kennels when I am home, so basically they are apart about 10 hours, 3 times a week while I work. So the pups will be born next to the other dogs and as they come out and explore they meet the dogs next to them. When they are really on their feet by about 4 weeks old I let them out into the dog yard with the rest of the dogs while I clean pens and housing, ect. Then at weaning age (5.5 weeks) I kick them out of moms kennel and they live in the yard until I feel they need to be kenneled (4.5 months old or so) My dogs are all used to eating, sleeping and being together. Young and old. I wouldn't own a dog I couldn't trust around a puppy. But that is where you knowing your own dogs come in, because one bite can and will kill a puppy. I have usually at least one litter a year, plus I almost always have a puppy I buy every year. So my poor dogs are so used to seeing puppies, I don't know if some of the older ones even notice there is a new puppy.
