STACEY. THIS CAN BE THE TOUGHEST OF ALL GAME TO LEARN TO HUNT. FIRST YOU MUST HAVE A BROKE DOG PERIOD. I WOULD RECOMEND TRYING A CAT TRACK ON SNOW FIRST. YOU CAN REALLY LEARN ALOT FROM SEEING WHAT IS GOING ON. IF YOUR HOUND WILL NOT STRIKE A COON FROM THE RIG ,IT PROBABLY WILL NOT STRIKE A CAT EITHER. I START ALL MY YOUNG HOUNDS FROM THE RIG. I FIND I CAN CONTROL EVERY SITUATION BETTER FROM THEIR. AS THE DOG STARTS TO FIGURE OUT THE RIG DECK, THEY WILL ALSO IN MOST CASES CHIRP ON OFF GAME. THIS IS OK. BUT DO ALL YOU CORRECTIVE MEASURES ON THE GROUND NOT THE RIG DECK.ONCE YOUR DOG IS STRIKING ONLY COON AND BROKE FROM DEER,ELK, COYOTE, THAN AND ONLY THEN ARE YOU READY TO TACKLE A CAT TRACK. I JUST KNOW MOST CAT CROSSINGS AND GET MY YOUNG DOGS TO THE LOCATIONS THAT CATS CROSS AND SEE WHAT THE DOGS CAN DO. I LIVE ON THE WEST SLOPE IN THE CENTER OF THE STATE WERE RIGGING IS EASY. LET ME KNOW THE LOCATION YOU HUNT AND I WILL GUIDE YOU TO SOME AREAS THAT HAVE CATS. AS I HAVE HUNTED EVERY PLACE IN OREGON A CAT HAS PLACED A FOOT AND DON'T MIND PUTTING YOU IN A GOOD AREA. GOOD LUCK.

STACEY. THAT IS A LOADED QUESTION, FIRST ALL BREEDS HAVE GOOD AND BAD CAT DOGS, MY PREFERANCE HAPPENS TO BE THE TREEING WALKER FOR VARIOUS REASONS. (COLOR BLIND)IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PUP LOOK VERY CLOSE TO YOUR AREA. GENERALLY YOU HAVE BETTER LUCK WITH LOCAL DOGS. THE PRESIDENT OF OUSDA HAS SOME BLUES FOR SALE CLOSE TO YOU. IF YOU COULD SWING IT TRY AND GET AT LEAST A WELL STARTED CAT DOG, MAY SAVE YOU ALOT OF GRIEF.BANKS OREGON? TO CLOSE TO PORTLAND FOR MY LIKING....YOU HAVE SO MANY AREAS THAT ARE GATED IN YOUR AREA. WHEN YOU GET UP AND GOING I HAVE AN OLD FRIEND FROM BANKS. I WILL PUT YOU IN CONTACT WITH, I'LL BET YOU CAN FIND SOME GOOD AREAS CLOSE TO HOME. HE WILL BE MORE IN THE KNOW OF WHAT AREAS HAVE ACCESS WHAT DON'T. GOOD LUCK !

ha ha deffinetly to close to portland! but no I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE COLOR. just wondering what different people are having luck with in the state. I am glad for all the insite you and others have to offer this is the main reason I hop on this site. not sure if I will buy a started cat dog only cause of to many people are just looking to make a buck and you don't know whether your getting what you pay for. but I am open to anyones suggestions an then look into it from there.

Hi
If you want to talk to someone who has a started cat dog, talk to Tom Doman. I have one of his females that is coming 2 and he kept a male out of that litter. He has walkers, and I would scoop up that male if I needed another and had some extra cash.
My female is pictured below with the red head. I can tell you from recent dealings with Tom, that he is an honest, stand up guy that doesnt peddle dogs for money. He will tell you the good and the bad about the dog. He hasn't advertised the dog publicly that I am aware of, and I hope he doesn't kick my butt for opening my big yapper about it
He lives in Canby, and I could give you his number.
