i am looking to buy a receiver for tracking my hounds and looking for some advice, and or just looking for the opinions of those systems that are most used and why? i also would like some feedback on the system or receiver made by trakker that is small and compact but appears very versatile and well compatible with many collars and frequencies does anyone have knowledge and or experience with this receiver. thanks in advance and hope to chat soon Randy

I have the tracker and its a good little unit. The thing I like best about it is the small size. It fits in the pocket on my chaps, in a back pack or coat pocket real easy. I really like the wildlife matrerials box, but its bigger and not as easy to cary around.

Take a look at the new GPS units. I'm hearing really good things about them. Only down side I see is the 17 hours battery life. A friend of mine is putting on a standard telemetry collar on as back up, just in case he cant get to the dog in 17 hours due to rough terain.

I've got the tracker also. Under perfect conditions I can recieve a signal from 10 miles out.

Tracker is coming out with a pretty cool new design yagi with an amp on it that is supposed to almost double the range.It only works on the Maxixma Complete though.

Been using the Tracker Maxima units for about 5 years now and love them. I love the lightweight compactness of it all, and they will get the range of any other unit out there. Some of my collars are Tracker and some are Marshall, both have about equal range, but the Marshall collars are a little lighter and more compact.

If you want the best of the best tracking box it might be big and not as small as some of the other boxes but nothing tracks like a wildlife blue box!!

Do yourself a favor and just buy a Marshall. I have the tracker and the wildlife trx 1000 and have compared them side by side and it was not any comparesen. Marshall is BY FAR the better receiver and collars on the market. You will not be disapointed and the people you hunt with will be converted too.

I bought a marshall and love it
The set up with the antenne moouted on the receiver is great and with the carry case its light and hangs out of the way
all in all sensitivity is awsome
We hunt with the wildlife trx 1000 also but it is a two handed operation
I would recommend the marshall

I have a tracker maxima, it is awesome, compact yet powerful, I used to have a johnson rb10 but it was bulky and I prefer something I can hang from my saddle, whip it out and get the bearings I need and put it back with out looking like a fool.

Randy I know the area you are from and the Tracker Maxima will work just fine where your at. I myself use a wildlife here and would not trade it for anyting but our mountains here make Katahdin look like an ant hill

Randy i have a tracker 5000 a garmin astro a Marshall 5 channel and also a wildlife trx1000 they all work fine the wildlife is probably the most accurate and dependable and the easiest to use but bulky in the woods i have learned to use my tracker most proficiently and will not leave the truck without it it works fine now after purchasing the garmin i will have it with me too. the Marshall is accurate and a little easier to carry than the wildlife but they all work fine its all in what you want and learn to use and want to carry with you i like my tracker & my garmin for there size and abilities good luck Larry

spanky , and larry thanks for the reply and the information on the systems you both prefer, and well could i also ask you what collars you also prefer as i currently have a wildlife 16000 hour with tree switch and i also have a johnson as i wanted to compare so what type of collars do you prefer and well which works best with the tracker and the wildlife system as my choice is still up in the air and this is something to consider what works best with what collars and also larry i am pleased to hear that you have the garmin gps system as i am also considering that as a backup or secondary system as well thank again, randy

I use the wildlife rechargeable collars. They are a bit bigger then most but have excellent signal strength and distance. I currently have 8 of them and have never had to send any of them back, I still use them all today. I also use Johnson. Those are like 16000 hours each.
