i am new to hunting with dogs interested in getting some wondering what the best breed is for me i am looking for a good all around dog for hog bear and cat i have a family friend that ran walkers here in bakersfield i think by what i have heard is what i want is short to med range dogs since i hunt near privite property and dont want to cross any info will help thanks

You just need a dog that will do that. I would reccomend that you DONT look at breed and look more at what a an individual dogs abilites are if you are going with a started or experienced dog.

Try to get several people around you that has some proven dogs to take you hunting and see how different dogs hunt. Differnent lines within the same breed may hunt totally different.

For example I have seen long range cold nose black mouth curs that would open some on track and also seen some hot nosed short dogs that were border line CATCH dogs but all were full blackmouth.

Take the work Black mouth and insert PLOTT, Catahoula, etc and you have the same result and I have seen all the above run both ways.

SO watch a dog hunt before you buy it.

thanks for the info long shot my plan is to hunt as much as i can for the next year or so and try to find what i am looking for not jumping right in to any thing agin thanks for the info
